iPhone 5 issues

I've searched and cannot find anything specifically related to iphone 5's. Its the first iPhone i've had, works no problem with the bluetooth telephone system.
The problem i have is the bluetooth in my car (factory fitted) doesnt' always pick it up as a media device so i dont always get the little bluetooth symbol along the top of the RNS display. When it does pick it up it just wont play any music on my phone. I even tried plugging the phone directly into the MDI and it still doesnt work, any ideas?
