Aux in - RCD510

Might sound like a silly question but.... How do you make this work???

I've not got anything else plugged in (media in). I've connected my phone (Samsung galaxy S3) to the aux port in the centre console, started playing a song but nothing is detected by the head unit.
I've tried pressing the media button but the display says no media available or something like that.

Am I doing something wrong?

Try using the touch screen's "Aux On" setting. It is one of the top four settings on the screen. That should get it to play. You will probably find that you will not be able to use the multi function steering wheel controls for anything but volume control, and neither will you be able to control functions from the touch screen. I enquired at the VW dealers about a better solution, which is apparently available in the form of a " Media Control Device." My local dealer didn't really know much about it other than saying it would have to be a special order item at a cost of approximately £ 250.

Can't see anything in settings that refers to aux.
I've pretty much gone through every option, even ones that obviously have nothing to do with aux.

If you've still got the USB cable or the iPhone cable plugged in to the socket in the centre arm rest then this takes priority over the Media-in. Unplug the cable and try Media-in again. As said above you need to ensure that you have set AUX in to play from the RCD menu (can't remember where that is exactly) and to set the AUX in volume level. If you've got an AUX in jack socket then those menu items should be around somewhere. Also make sure that the volume on your AUX device is set to a moderate level.

I've tried everything but still no luck.
Tried unplugging iphone cable from media in, looks in settings for aux options... Nothing.

Can anyone give step by step to get to the aux settings please? Just in case I'm some how not seeing them. I suspect that they're not on mine though.

Thanks.

Hmmm.. I'm missing the 'activate aux input' softkey then.

Thanks anyway. Looks like it's going to have to be a trip to vw.

It's the very first one on the list and further down the list there is another one to adjust the input level

Definitely no reference to aux anywhere in my settings.

If I can get hold of vcds I'll have a look to see if there is coding missing or something.

Yep, I fixed mine. It was a coding issue.

Couple of questions to see if yours has the same problem as mine...

If you go to your radio's set up (music note button, top right of unit) do you have a "balance - fader" option or just "balance"??
Do you have dynaudio sound system installed??
Does your stereo sound very loud even at only 25% volume level??

If yes and you have access to vcds then it's an easy fix and I can give you step by step instructions to sort it out.

Sincs, can you please provide the instructions on how you fixed the issue using VCDS?

I have an RCD 510 on a 59 plate (no media input, only aux) and there is no option to enable the aux in the media settings menu.

I've only just got the car, it's not a dynaudio system (no logos anywhere anyway) but I do still have the fader option in the sound settings menu.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Philjay, I saw that other post but have been trying to find out what the actual setting to change in VDCS is, i.e. control module, byte, bit... Pretty new to this sort of stuff so just wanted to make sure.
