Hi folks, as title suggests thinking of changing to a 5door car trading in my 2012 61 plate 170 gt with 7000 miles on clock. Went to stealer today and looked at Golf GTI DSG 12 Plate asking £21,990. Offered me £17000 for mine, but one thing was niggling me about the golf it had 8500 mile on clock but already had 2 new tyres on front, and they were not even originals as rears pirelli, they were some name i have never heard of. asked the sales guy and he said if the originals were below 3mm they would replace them anyhow and not always with like for like brand. Does new tyres at 8000 miles sound as though it has been given some welly or is this part of the norm with golfs. My fronts on my scirroco have done 7000 miles and still have at least 6mm left and thats with the extra weight of diesel engine!. Any advice would be appreciated before i part with me hard earned cash. PS this is a VW dealer im talking about.

in our household it is not uncommon to see 9-10k out of a set of fronts on a GTI, i'd haggle though as strong money given mk7 order book is open

I agree that it's strong money but judging by quick search on eBay that price is about right...

Wag29: Have you given the new MK7 GTI a thought? The Solutions final rental (guaranteed furture vale) on the GTI and GTD is so high, the monthly payments are comparatively low. You're talking about 54% retained on the GTI and 56% on the GTD at 3 years old. The GTI and GTD are so well specced there may not be many if any extras you want on it. I'm going for a Pearlescent Deep Black 5 door GTD, ordered on Friday, should be here for June. I don't rate Pirelis at all for wear - my P7s that came with the Roc were shot at 12k miles due to a wear pattern like massive overinflation (and they were inflated to 0.1bar less than filler flap recommendations). Having shot Pirellis on a GTI at 9k miles isn't necessarily a dealbreaker.

Thanks for replys, Whitedevil placed a link to gti on ebay, this is the exact car i was viewing at the dealers today, it is a nice car and very nice to drive just did not want to end up with a car that has been driven like its stolen by previous owners. Thus my worry that it needs 2 tyres at 8000 miles.

its a GTI so someone no doubt bought it to drive it, worth noting the car is on the optional 19" Glendale's, which are farely rare, my experience is based on 18s

Haha what's the chance of that happening me just picking a random ad and its one you been to look at.. Looks a very nice car. But even still 8000 isn't alot out of a set of fronts. But as wigit said its a GTI so it was bought with the intention of driving it

Hi all, update on change of car, collect new car on friday gone for Golf gti dsg 5door in carbon grey metallic 62 plate sept 2012 pre reg car with 30 miles on clock. xenons, and Glendale alloys are the two options i was looking for.Lovely drive and pretty quick too, part ex my scirroco as did not want the hassle again of trying to do private sale, got £17500 for scirroco against Golf priced at £24990 which was originally up for £26890 but reduced due to new mk7 being launched. So hoping i enjoy driving the golf as much as i have the scirroco although i shall be pulling into the petrol staion a bit more often than before no doubt. Thanks for comments and advice guys.
