Wheel tracking

After using Launch Control it span (in icey wet) because the fronts were on the 1.6mm limit but the fronts do wear on the insides faster. It's not that the tracking is out either as on the Scirocco you can not adjust the tracking camber without added kits. But I did pay for tracking for 4 new Continental Sports after that.

Is wheel tracking worth paying for on the stock setup or just a placebo?

The scirocco runs negative camber on stock settings so the inside edge will always wear quicker. Toe angles do make a difference though so its always worth getting a chassis alignment done.

A good alignment is probably the most important part of any chassis setup, thousands of pounds of suspension goodies are worthless without a good alignment.

So asking a tyre fitting garage to check tracking on a stock is pointless as it can't be altered without extra kits anyway?
i.e. the preset is what they would use for the road.

A tyre fitting garage, yes. A reputable tuner or suspension & geometry tuner, No. You've still got plenty of adjustment and the difference between a good and bad geometry set up (even on stock components) is night and day.

Irrespective of what set up you have, your always going to have traction issues with a FWD car. Just modulate the throttle rather than relying on 'Launch Control', which is a complete fad in it's own right.[/quote]

That's what I thought also thanks.
Oh and save £25 at the local tyre monkeys
