Blown Boot Light, possibly the fuse MY2009 Red MFD

Post by RisingRoc »

Looking for a bit of help if possible. Was changing out my interior bulbs for LEDs this morning. Started with the festoons and all was going well until I got to the boot. Connect the LED, got a bit of light, now nothing on any of my interior lights. Tried reconnecting the original bulb and still nothing. Guessing I've blown a fuse but from looking at the diagrams above I'm not sure which fuse is for the interior lights and what else it may control. Anyone know which it is on the image below?

Thanks

Lights is Central Electrics 09 controller (Controller J519 on electrics). Too much to list in the fuse list. (maybe have a think about a back sheet list for this controller's fuses when I review MY2013 lists)

From that photo of the fuses, I assume this Scirocco is a Red MFD MY2009 model.

Look at Side Dash fuse panel, Fuse 15- Brown 7.5A on the third row down.
The row that is from front car to rear car: red 10A, red, red, lbrown 7.5A, space, tan 5A. space x 4.

This Central Electics Controller - 09 (Circuit Controller J519) fuse of a few CE fuses controls only the interior illumination.

Thanks for the response RW1. Yes it is a red MFD. So it take it if I change the fuse it should work ok or will there be Vagcom faults to be cleared?

If none of the footwell, glovebox and overheads work when the doors open, you had better hope the fuse blew. Cos the next is a bit more expensive. There is a small relay near the CE Controller area behind fuse panel and if the LED unit blew its contacts, then its needs to be replaced
(Part No. 1K0 951 253).

Yes, there will almost certainly be fault code(s) about a short to ground. Will need clearing at some point.

Thanks once again RW. I'm going to try and pick up some fuses from Halfords tomorrow. Saw there are three type of Blade Fuses - which I assume these are - Blade Fuse, Micro Blade Fuse and Mini Blade Fuse. Do you know which one it'll be? If not i'll just take the fuse out and into the store with me.

Found those relays on eBay for about a fiver but guess they're a dealer job for fitting. I take it there's no issue in running the car for a period without these lights or with the fault codes in the system?

Just a bit confused why this happened when changing the bulb.

So you found a faulty fuse??

I got my spare mini-fuses 7.5 amp from Halfords for my lights and fuse kit. You'll have to buy two in the pack iirc.

If its the relay, you just take out the cubby hole storage and under dash panel to get into the area. Move the relay straps away and pull the relay as usual. Fit new and put the securing straps back in place. Shouldn't be an issue, its just a straight feed circuit off the fuse.

Clear faults when all sorted.

I think the LED is faulty. Don't use again, I've seen a few catching fire recently on forums like there is faulty batch knocking about ......

Nope not confirmed its the fuse yet as I don't have another one to swap it out for to check. Footwell are the only lights still working. If its not the fuses, I'll order the relay switch and have a go.

Got the bulbs from Flux through the forum so will try and get a replacement from him. Kind of wish I hadn't started this in the first place, but the ones I got working were looking great till they all stopped working.

Footwell lights are on a separate circuit to the rest.

Changed the fuse and lights back on. :) now just got to put the rest of the bulbs in (bar the potentially faulty boot one!)

Thanks for you help and guidance
