Interesting tech on new Seat Leon

I've just been sent the new info leaflet for the forthcoming new Seat Leon - there are a few interesting things in there which the VAG group as a whole should be looking to adopt with newer models coming out (thinking next Roc here).
They've dropped the 1.4TSI completely in twin charged form, it's only available in the 140PS turbo version only, filling the gap with a 180PS 1.8TSI as used by Audi.
The 140PS and 170 PS variants of the 2.0TDI have been replaced by 150PS and 184PS variants (the 150PS variant is already confirmed for the MK7 Golf too, but the higher models of the new Golf haven't been confirmed yet) - hopefully that much rumoured twin charged TDI that audi have put into the A6 will make it over too.
They have new all LED headlights (optional) and tail lights, hopefully they'll be a lot brighter than the current halogens most of us have that are like a pair of candles at the front of the car.
Hopefully we'll be seeing all the above tech on the next Roc.

The thing I'm keen to see is what VW will do when they replace the current 2.0 170PS TDI power plant . They lag way behind what BMW can get out of their twin-power diesel engines. They're current crop of 2.0l diesel engines produce up to 214bhp and can still do 57mpg. Amazing tech.
Just imagine how exciting a new scirocco would be with a 2.0l diesel engine producing 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque! All that attached to the new MQB platform weighing 80-100kg less than the current model. Food for thought.

Gary_Monkey: I think the direct replacement for the 170PS TDI would be the 184PS mentioned before - assuming that would be standard on Golf GTD/Roc GT. For the bi-turbo similar to that on the A6 (but 2.0, not 3.0), kicking out 210-220PS, would we get a Diesel "R" model? VAF definitely need a 2.0 bi-turbo TDI to keep up with BMW and Vauxhall.

But I see they are using the twin charged 1.4 in the new Ibiza Cupra .....

I hope they have fixed the oil guzzling engine!

Do you mean the current TDI diesel or the 1.4 TSI twin-changer on our cars?

No. Reference the Twin Charged 185PS engine and its sump oil guzzling problems across the VAG model range. 170PS, 160PS, 150PS haven't been with the same engine oil consumption problem generally over the years since the engine launch like the 185PS variant - CAVE. And mapped T/Charged 1.4TSi's don't do this either generally.
I'd let that model/engine run 12 to 18 months in the market before touching it just make sure its not another 185PS. The TwinCharged 1.4TSi engine has been revised across the VAG ranges since September'12, so CAV* engine previously factory fitted are now a CTH* engine family [ * = A.....E ]. This engine variant is also now in the Scirocco as engine code CTHD at 160PS (previously code CAVD - 160PS variant, Aug'08 - Aug'12 for the Scirocco).
The CTHE 185PS engines are still early in life so its not clear yet whether the oil consumption on the 185PS is cured by this re-design.

You don't have to imagine. Take a current Tdi 170 to Revo and they will happily map it to 208bhp 450Nm. It will still weigh the same but with 450Nm on tap i'm not sure thats so important.

LOL I haven't clue what all that means Chris but I'm guessing that variants of the 1.4 TSi since Aug'12 have had a few problems ironed out
