Wheel Refurbishment and Painting question

Hello again :)

I am in the process of sourcing some second hand Interlagos wheels for my GT. I intend to have them spruced up (they look pretty good already, so won't take much) and also get them "painted" in gloss black. I just fancy having black wheels on my black Scirocco for some reason.

Has anyone had any experience with getting their wheels "painted." I say painted, but I think that they are powder coated and lacquered. Are they that robust, or will I be constantly be back to the powder coaters to get them re-coated?

Also, with living close to Manchester, I am thinking of using Smart Wheels in Manchester city centre. Has anyone here had any dealings with this company, or know of anyone else who may have?

Many thanks :)

Paint is not as hard wearing as Powder coat.
But paint is cheaper because you can do it your self if you plan it and take your time.
I've painted 2 sets of wheels.

The powder coat finish is just as durable as the factory finish, you don't need to worry about it peeling off or anything.

With proper care it should last the life of the car but if you neglect them they will deteriorate, just like standard wheels.

I had mine powder coated in Glasgow (too far for you i know) and they look great. Cost you about £250/300 for a proper job. See fotos in my post.

Where did you get them done? Good to know for future reference.

They were done at
ESP Powdercoating
Unit 2a
30, Stronend St
Glasgow
Lanarkshire
G22 6AR
0141 336 3800

They did exactly what they said they would and a one day service (you pay a bit more for that). Bit of a shaby building and area but nice job and pleasant owner.
