Vehicle Management System (VMS)

Hi peeps,

Has anyone heard of Vehicle Management System (VMS)?

The reason I ask, is that when I bought my GT, along with a load of receipts and stuff, there was an A4 print out, which basically looks like a history of events to do with my car.

It has the VIN number, registration number, colour, and a load of other details about the car, and, the bit I'm interested in, a list of events such as Service, Repair, Warranty, amongst others. There's a strange even on there called Disowned! I wonder what on earth that means??? The list also contains dates, mileages and a dealer code.

Is this an official VW print out do you think? Is it trustworthy/accurate?

Ultimately, what I am trying to find out is if my gear box oil was changed at the scheduled time. I've been told by a friend who works as a mechanic at Warrington VW dealer, that the gear box oil needs changing at 40k of five years, which ever comes soonest. My car is under five years old, but it has done 62k, so I am hoping that at one of the "events" on this list, the gear box oil was changed.

It had a "LongLife" service at 35,762 miles (22/04/2010), and an "Inspection Service" at 52,921 miles (20/12/2010), and I would have thought/hoped that it was done at one of those events.

Do you think that the dealer would have detailed records still? I need to confirm that the dealer code, 00644, is Redditch VW, which is what has been hand written on the print out.

Any help, or thoughts on my ramblings above, would be nice :D

Andy, I got a similar print out on purchase of mine, I came to the conclusion that a pinch of salt was needed regarding the accuracy of the events, there were a couple of events on mine that made no sense, a recall was one of them, the dealer which supposedly carried it out had no record of which. However the 'disowned' event coincided with the dealer I bought it from obtaining the car from another dealer, so that may just mean disowned by dealer in network possibly?

Anyway, these records are only as accurate as the drones that record them allow and going by VW dealer experiences, the fact the printout had *some* relevance is a minor miracle.

The dealer codes on mine were accompanied by post codes too which made them easy to track, the VW website has the dealer codes embedded in the web address if you look them up though.

Thanks for your response sugar_W :)

I think you're right, regarding the pinch of salt. My sons friend, the one who works at VW, is going to check what records exist for my car.

It might just be safer, though, to go ahead with a gear oil change anyway. Just for peace of mind...

If it were me I certainly would, unless concrete proof that the oil was changed does materialise. Thats the trouble with buying used, you never quite know the full story.

What is in the 1.1 Service Schedule Book for the Scirocco?

There is a specific box in 1.1 at each service entry under the "Additional Work" section for the DSG gear oil & filter change (6 speed only) to give the dealer the option to record the 60,000Km (40,000 miles) service point.

If not marked, then its a definitely do as it affects the DSG long term warranty which exceeds the normal 3 years. Discuss with your dealer (seller) this aspect to make sure they don't think otherwise in the future in the event of replacement happening.

C.

I know the DSG warranty was extended in the USA but did that apply here to? If so how many years/miles is it? Due to the cost of the things that could affect my decisions in 7 months time when my warranty expires. TIA.

Thanks for the info RW1. Unfortunately, I bought my car from a dodgy dealer in Burton on Trent, and I know, from my dealings with him thus far, that he will not honour the so called 90 day mechanical warranty he has given me.

Bottom line is, I've booked it in for a gear oil change on Saturday, so that's that.
