7 speed DSG not running as smoothly between 1st & 2nd gear

Over the last month I've started to notice my DSG isn't running as smoothly as it once did between 1st & 2nd shifts.

It's hard to explain but there is a bit of a judder (and a slight surge) when changing from 1st to 2nd. It is especially noticeable at slow speeds (when crawling forward in slow moving traffic). All other gear changes are still smooth.

Don't get me wrong it isn't terrible but as all the other changes are practically indiscernible you kinda notice it more.

Anybody else experience this or has it been raised on here before and I've missed it.

What d'ya reckon. Trip to the stealers (which I hate) or just live with it? Still under warranty until Nov 2012.

Feedback welcome.

Gary,

Dealers old boy.

Its a known problem with the 7 speed DSG, may also affect reversing as well. It will progressvely get worse.

New clutch pack will be fitted. (TPI 2026097-03 - 05.01.2012) plus they will update the DSG ECU with new firmware which gives quicker gear changes on all gears.

Here in Greece we have a lot of 1.4 Rocs ...
I bought too a 1.4 DSG7 in January
In greek sciroccoclub the most members of a 1.4 DSG7 have the SAME PROBLEM , also all around the wolrd all DSG7 have the same problem(less problems at DSG7 i have seen at Polo GTI/Ibiza Cupra/FR/Fabia VRS/A1 185PS)
As RW1 said, VW Germany have new Clutch Pack for the DSG7 more realiable and also if you put the new Clutch pack you must update to the latest version .
I hope my Roc to have the new Clutch Pack and the new software .. so to have no problems . It is MY2012
RW1 you are veryyyyy old member and you have DSG7 . How many km. dou you have and what problems it appears to you?
Thanks

How did you know it was my 82nd birthday in 17 days time ?

Just coming upto 22,500 Km.

I have no problems with the DSG I can detect. In fact, shortening the spark plug gap took any away gear change effects. Just tweeking the Camshaft Adjuster Solenoid Valve to remove what remains.

Smooth as a baby's bum all the time and even better since the spark plug gap was reduced. Just like an electric motor now, never feel the gears causing surges, judders, etc..

Something like this " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but in more rough road
exactly the same with this : " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but we have not so much rough roads so to be so loud. But at some roads its like this and its like an old crappy car :(
Do you have this sounds?
For example if i am with 3rd gear and low speed and i see a bump at the road i push the brake then before it downshift to 2nd gear i hit with my wheels the bump then the crappy noise :( ...Also sometimes i can hear the 1/2/3 gear change like clack clack but at rough road i hear TIN CANS like the video and with some search at google all have the same sounds but i dont know if it is a problem

I will have a listen tomorrow specifically. Not had the windows down all winter lol.

Have you had anything else happen? eg. DSG gear indicator in the MFD flash, engine stalling when switching on high electrical loads such as the Heated Rear Window, Headlights, Cabin Fan on full speed or no drive when D or R is selected????

Have you had the software upgrade in the DSG (Auto-Trans - 02 Controller)?

As I wrote on the "Whats Your Build Date?" yesterday.....

DSG7 New Clutch Pack ........

............

Software. Post up a VCDS screen shot of your DSG Auto-Trans - 02 screen or an Auto-Scan list.
..............

I will come back about sounds later. First indications - quiet :shake: But remember I sit on the right side with the gearbox on the left.

OK had the opportunity today to get to some rough roads. In D1, D2 & D3 at below 20 mph (30 Kph), cannot hear anything with the side window open. Not even the DSG changing gear (clack sounds).

Put a microphone in the engine bay on top of the battery and recorded the trip (1 hour). That picked up the DSG clack noise gearchanges. On the rough road part, all that was picked up was the suspension creeking. No noises like the YouTube link you say is best typical of it.

I just received a letter from my VW SC asking me to book an appointment for 7-speed DSG update. I have the juddering in lower gears & I hope this update will fix that issue. However I am also concerned if it will cause the car to suffer a lag when pulling away from a standstill. Anyone has gone for the update? If so, I really appreciate if you can share your pre & post update experience... Thanks!

Hi. I have a jetta 1.4 tsi cavd engine with dq200 dsg. For what it's worth the issue of hearing gear changes 1-2-3 with windows down is known by VW and is listed in a tpi. Basically they say this is a comfort issue but not a component failure issue so they're not going to fix it as there is no fix currently. If needed I can post the tpi word for word as I have access to elsawin.

My main question is does anyone have statistics on 7 speed dsg issues?

Post the TPI if you can .
All DSG7 make sounds , it is very annoying . I have ask owners of Audi A1,A3, VW Golf/Polo/Passat, Seat Ibiza/Leon etc etc all they have the annoying sounds .
The most common problem in DSG7 is the Clutch Pack which make the car to Judder at the 2nd Gear . VW Have make new clutch disk and i hope to solve the problem for ever . Also the most scary problem is the Mechatronic :grumpy: which when it goes off you cant move

"Technical product information Transaction No.: 2021120/2

Service info: transmission - gear changing noises/clacking Release date: 10-Dec-2009

Gear changing noises in position D in the first three gears. From second to third parties gear and with open window gear changing/clacking noises are clearly audible.

In the Tip gate the noises are less pronounced.

The noises are caused when a gear is selected.

That tpi occurs on any road. There is another tpi for the clacking and rattling noises on rough roads which is a software update. Will post that tpi word ..... ******** :shake:  . They state no component failure in that one as well.

The one that I am most afraid of is the mechatronic unit failing suddenly.
