Had my car detailed on Sunday

As the title says I had my car detailed on Sunday by Russ at Midlands Car Care again (he did a winter protection around October time). The aim was to get rid of the Winter crud and give it some protection ready for the Spring and Summer.

I took a few pictures which I've included below but you'll have to forgive them as I didn't realise until after that the settings on my camera were all to pot.

I'm hoping Russ will be along to add some pictures of the process he went through as he has some much better ones than I've included! For now here is a link to a thread Russ put up on Detailing World

Hi Scott,

The wax was Auto Finesse Desire, which is £119 a pot and is released today in fact!

A protection detail like this is around the £100 mark.

Oh and a pic with the Summer Wheels on...

Looking good you guys! What a difference a professional detail makes to a car.

Russ, what advice would you have for maintaining that appearance after a detail?

I had mine detailed (3-stage wax and polish) last week. I was advised to clean the car with microfibre cloths and avoid car washes (natch). Would that mean dry wiping down the car with the microfibre cloths or using some solvent, even soapy water? What do you recommend?

The C5 will protect the wheels for 18-24 months!

Hey there,

Please, please don't just use a MF on your car dry, you will almost certainly inflict swirling and scratches. Presumably the detailer meant that you shouldn't be using cheap MF's when working on your car, as they can also scratch the clearcoat if not made of a sufficient quality.

General tips for maintaining your car would be:

- Get a pressure washer and pre rinse your car as well as possible to remove as much dirt as you can before making physical contact with the car
- Use a good quality, soft mitt and good quality. pH neutral shampoo to wash your car with
- Try and find out what protection your detailer used and buy the matching shampoo and quick detailer, to help maintain the protection and finish
- Get a soft drying towel and ideally a 'blower' to ensure that nothing is 'dragged' across the surface when drying the car

The biggest risk of inflicting swirling is dirt and/or debris being dragged across the surface.

Cheers,
Russ.

Do like the idea of having my car detailed after looking at those pics. Got a few swirls from my amateur claying attempt! But then car was never destined for show and shine ;)

Russ beat me to it with the wheel pics! Haven't had chance to get any decent ones yet but here's one taken on the drive the other day

Mine's definitely not for show and shine but having it detailed properly makes it so much easier to keep it clean for me! My reasoning is purely laziness based :D

They look even better now the suspension has settled a bit more. Fancying some coloured bolts to go with them just having trouble sourcing the right length and fitment in the tuner style.

It looks great now it's settled a bit Jeff.

What is the name of the suspension set up place you mentioned please? I can't find anything to replace my Ed30, so going to put ARB's on it and get it set up properly.

Russ.

It's centre gravity. You'll either speak to Chris (Franklin) or his wife. There is a full write up on my build thread but can't seem to sort the link to it out on my phone. Quite possibly the best thing I had done to my car!
