Engine Management Fault

Hi All

I have a 59 plate 2.0 TDI GT, with a re-occurring fault - I'm tearing my hair out now and have lost all confidence in the 'roc to get me from A to B in a timely and reliable manner. My 'roc is a hard working company car.

The glow plug light comes on and at the same time you get a message up on the dash that says Engine Fault: Worksop, then it goes in to limp mode. Last week when this happened the engine management light came on too. I got recovered to VW, and they have updated the software as it had a fault that stoppped the car working once it got to -10. The dealership then said that there may be a fault with the EGR valve/sesnor, and it could breakdown again.

Yesterday the glow plug light came on again, and the dash says Engine Fault: Workshop, and went into limp mode. I limped the car to my parents as they are much closer than the 250 miles home. Recovery came out to me and can't find any faults. It is currently sat at another VW garage.

On both occaisions the car was well into substantial journeys and the engine was warm, nothing else unusual to report.

On top of this there is an intermittent ESP fault, that the garage can not fix, as there are no error codes stored.

Can you give me a steer on what may be wrong with it and whether it may become a reliable car again?? At this point in time I can't wait for this car to go back and have something else.

Update - the dealership can not find anything wrong with it, they say there are no stored fault codes.

Is there anything that you may be able to recommend them to look at..... the thought of 250 mile drive home with a car with an intermittent fault is quite unnerving

Note the condition can show "no fault codes".
