Does it actually save any fuel or is it just to get the car a low co2 tax rating??

Thoughts on Auto Start/Stop
While starting and stopping through traffic the other day, I couldnt help but notice the Range figure dropping the 5 mile steps pretty dramatically. More than if I didnt use it and just kept the clutch down.

Re: Thoughts on Auto Start/Stop
I think the manual (of a 1.4 TSI 90 kW BMT) states that the engine needs to stop for about 20 s for it to actually save fuel. Could be less, but basically if you only stop for a few seconds every time then it will actually increase fuel consumption.
