I have been sat on an order form for a 170 candy white dsg for the last few weeks, whilst also having looked at the Polo GTI and A3 S Line Stronic, but what the hell is going on with German manufacturers at the moment?
The A3 is a minimum of 6 months, and whilst VW are still quoting 3 months for the Roc and Polo, it seems to be common knowledge now that they are unable to fulfil their orders of either cars within wither the quoted timescale, or in fact give any indications of what the timescale will actually be. For any DSG model seems to be several months after promised, with any VW model.
Have VAG laid off most of their staff?
Have they priced the car too keenly (definately the case in terms of the A3 for company buyers)
Why can they not give a straight answer?
My preference is for the Roc, but as it stands I have a hire car for the next 3 months and beyond that I have to start paying penalties (I do reasonably high mileage), and if I cannot be given a delivery date which I can be confident the manufacturer will stick to, then I am going to have to go elsewhere, and be stuck with a car which is not my first, second or even third choice.
Anyone know what is going on with VW

Re: VAG failing to fulfil orders
From speaking to my local dealer as i was looking, there is a supply issue with components for DSG/S Tronic which won't help. Also the introduction of the Start/Stop Bluemotion stuff will cause delays.
It could also be the UK VAT rise having an issue? They could have had a very large order book with people trying to beat the VAT rise and this has led to delays?
I'm in the same position as you regarding the Scirocco vs A3 and as you say at the moment the A3 is the more favourable choice, but the Bluemotion will swing the Scirocco back into favour shortly for you as the CO2 is dropping massively... unsure on the 170, but the 140 drops down to 118g/Km. I was quoted 2 months for an A3 though, so the 6 is a little scary! Have neither manufacturer got a car in the system anywhere that would be acceptable?

Re: VAG failing to fulfil orders
i was looking to get the folks a new Polo back in June. Dealers then said the delivery time was anything from 20 weeks upwards due to demand being way more than what VW UK have been alloted.stunt wrote:Yeh , My mums had a polo on order since July. As you ordered in July...I reckon it'll arrive in 2011. They should have advised u of the potential lead time tho.
