Scirocco Factory on Holiday??

Post by caprinolaw »

I am waiting for my car to built/delivered.

I have ordered my vehicle through a leasing company who order straight from the factory.

I called them today to ask if they could update me on the progress of the car and they said yes but the factory is shut for a couple of weeks, once it opens they will.

Does this ring true with anyone else or is it just complete BS because they dont know?
Jay.

30.06.2010 - Rocco ordered.

I know from experience that Nissan in Sunderland definitely shut for a fortnight in the summer so I could well believe this to be true. (worked there for 10 weeks between graduating from uni and my current job starting in the September). They just haven't got the staff to cover so many people wanting to take leave at a single time.

The scirocco computers shut down recently, but are back up now - but as Ian_Mac said, alot of car factories do close for a period of time in the Summer.

Lets put it this way..... there ain't any ships ;)
The spots hire ships (Suar Vigo, Galicia, Bouzas, Tenerife Car & L'Audace) are all laid up in ports since last week, some now being assigned to different shipping contracts away from VW.
Last ship that sailed from Setúbal was the African Highway late on Thursday night and the next is 30th August when African Highway returns.

C.
Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!

Well I think the basis of everyone's replies and the shipping evidence etc. It's probably true.

Looks like I'll be adding 2 weeks onto my estimated delivery date!

This question has been asked in previous years about this time. There were similar rumours about when I was waiting for mine but it still turned up on time.
Don't think anyone ever got to the truth behind this though.

I was told by my dealership the factory was closed for 2 weeks. I had build week 32 and if I recall correctly (not sure though), the factory was closed two weeks before that, somewhere around end July, beginning August.
