New wheels - help needed.

Post by PM91 »

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a fresh set of wheels and when I've gone to build the rim/tyre package I've got the option to add TPMS sensors but honestly I don't know if I need these or not.

They're charging an extra 170 for them to be added.

Is anyone able to shed light on if I need this or not.

Cheers

You didn't say what car you had, but I don't think you need sensors. My 2009 Scirocco does not have any TPMS, and my 2017 Golf just uses the ABS wheel sensors as the basis of it's TPMS.

Sorry, that would have been helpful on my part.

It's a 2016 R-Line 2.0 TSI.

From reading around it seems some folk have mentioned that I shouldn't, and that it uses the ABS sensors as you mentioned but again I'm unsure.

Also, does anyone know if 19" 9.5j will fit all round, and what offset ideally would be needed along with tyre setup for them to fit snug.

My current setup is OEM so 235/35/19 and 8Jx19 ET41

I haven't lowered the car either but I do plan on so that's something I'll need to take into account.

Does anyone know if 255/35/19 tyres combined with 9.5j 35ET all around will rub, I'm able to get a deal with this setup and I have had mixed information on forums regarding this.

Yes the car doesn’t have sensors, it takes readings from the wheel speed sensors.
The seller if it’s a wheel company should be able to give you the correct accurate information, if not maybe try a different company.

Cool, one less thing to worry about.

I went with 235/35/19s michelin pilot sport 5, now just debating what size rim to get.

Would 9.5 be too much for a 235/35 tyre does anyone know? The alternative is to just get 8.5 but that'll then be more of a performance style while I'm kind of digging the Concave look.
