2.0 gt TSI modified, vs R stock?

Post by MikeJDS »

Hi there people, been thinking on this for a while now but wanted to get other people's opinions on this matter.

I'm torn between buying a used scirocco R and keeping it stock 2009-2010 ish, or buying a 2.0 TSI gt spec and nodding it with something around a revo stage 2 remap, and uprated brakes wheels and suspension. Which would you guys go for?

Cheers

My guess would be that a stock R might be cheaper to insure, as it would be unmodified. If you declare your modifications to the insurance company on a 2.0 TSI GT, they may hike up the price quite a bit. You could also argue that an R is more likely to retain its value and be more sought after in the long term, if you look after it.

Cheers guys for getting back, yeah I'd been toying with the fact of the r would be more expensive in bulk but cheaper in the long run due to resale and insurance prices of the gt being poorer. I suppose it just comes down to if I'd be happy with stock or really want a modded car

Remember with the stock R, you still have the option of modding it at a later date, if you so wish. On the other hand, the decision may be made for you based on the availability of cars.

Do you mean used R vs a brand new 2.0 gt?

Then obviously I would go for the brand new 2.0 TSI. Are they face lifted?

Production of the Scirocco has ceased and unless a dealer happens to have an unsold one hiding somewhere, you can't buy a brand new Scirocco

The OP is referring to used examples.

Yes I can still find dealers that have them or with low mileage like below 5k

I would take facelift Scirocco 2.0 TSI because with stage 1, you can go up to 300hp. With turbo change, IS38 bolt-on, it will be close to 400hp. Carbon built up issue is resolved in 3rd Gen EA888

I quote this, is the best Scirocco you can buy, with newer EURO6 engine, EA888 gen3 mounted in Golf MK7 GTI; you can find different version on Scirocco, 180 HP, 220 HP (GTS), or R restyling 280 HP
I don't know where you live, but in germany there are some Scirocco 2.0 TSI restyling with a very low miliage (km) and at good prices.

ea113 is capable of doing 400hp but a turbo must be changed. Again the newer one is just better.
