Managed to grind gears - should I be worried?

Post by rocco19 »

Hi all,

Bit of a silly question I wish I wasn’t asking but... Basically I’ve had my Rocco for a few weeks and in getting used to it I’ve managed to grind 3rd gear on two occasions when changing from 2nd gear and caused that terrible noise nobody wants to hear.

I’m not sure how it happened specifically whether it was me not pushing the clutch down 100% or something else but it’s only ever happened during 2nd to 3rd.

Now I’m hugely paranoid that I’ve ruined the gearbox because 3rd now feels slightly stiff and kind of isn’t as smooth to push into gear (it might’ve been anyway and I’m only noticing because of what’s happened).

So basically I want to know if I should be worried and if so what likely needs to be done to rectify it.

2.0 TSI GT

Cheers and tia,

No need to worry, they are designed to be quite resilient to such things. Just forget about it and enjoy the car.

Fair play. Do you think it’s the cause of 3rd becoming a bit stiff?
