central locking strange issue- drivers door

Post by Asus1987 »

So i think unrelated but the other day i did a firmware update on the headunit to 5238 , all working fine, just the maps to update now

however today go to the car, press unlock, cant open drivers door,
wind window down with button, open drivers door from inside all ok,

drive to work, get out, lock car, press unlock- same again cant open door from outside, from inside fine,
open door, close door, dont lock car, can open door from outside, so it doesnt seem to be something thats loose, seems something is not sending a unlock signal to the door, ( window all drops as normal)
anyone come accross this, ideas etc?

How weird is this, mine has also started doing this in the last 2 weeks!!
Looking on pistonheads, I found a link to a Passat which were famed for it.
They said you could be lucky at hit (with a soft hammer) the black screws on the door elbow (where the lock is when you open the door and view from the side)

It worked with me but sadly the fault has returned. I think it`ll need a part or at least the door card to come off to see if something is in the way? (doubtful)

No it won’t open with the key. Definitely sane issue. I think it’s a new control unit require :(

are you thinking the latch or a different part?

i have asked a friend at TPS who is asking one of the VW technitions he knows if there is a common cause or somewhere to start.

Brilliant hope he can tell us.
I’m thinking it’s the catch. Chances are it’ll be expensive. Really weird how you’ve just had the same issue.
Surely others must have?

It will be the door lock module. They have a metric sh*t ton of micro switches inside. All VW's since Golf 4 used them and they always cause issues when older.

That's the type of module, just make sure you have the correct part number as there are usually slight changes as the models progress through their life span.

This is the parts site I use;

Ebayed one arrived today, got one of the guys at work to fit,
everything seems to be working perfectly,

so £15 and about an hour to fit, had to strip door quite far down to get it,

( good timing since this morning my key fob wouldn't open any doors except the boot ( battery had got low) and i had to climb in through the boot to start the car :hyper:

Hi folks
I have managed to break the the tail gate mechanism as I was removing the driver side door card to up grade my speakers I was undoing the wiring harness which runs from the switch to the car body when I dropped the card pulling the harness from the car. The actual switch in the door card is ok and the system functions ok from the key
I would appreciate some help from you guys as to what I need to purchase to fix this.
Thanks

Was the part only £15? That's cheap! My friends dad had to change 3 on his Passat all in a month
