Noise from O/s/r

Post by Delbert »

Morning all
Purchased a 2015 2.0 tdi r line about 2 months ago ,its not done 20k yet , I noticed a slight noise from the o/s/r when going over larger bumps at slow speed , for instance if you go over a speed bump , it's as the wheel drops down the other side you hear a slight donk, it's not a heavy clonk like a roll bar link , I was convinced it was the shock as was the garage we got it from so it's been changed under wty but exactly the same , I'm starting to think I'm being fussy , but it's only the o/s/r , question is should I assume this is a normal trait of the car and i am being fussy or is this an issue
Thanks for any input
Regards Dale

Hi Delbert,

Whilst I have yet to experience this on my TDi, you might want to take a look at the suspension spring for breakages. VW are known for weak spring metal and there are a number of posts on this forum about springs breaking on any of the corners of the car. I wouldn't be able to give you a more technical suggestion that this, so hopefully others on here will add to my two pennyworth !

Sounds very much like either a broken spring or a worn drop link ball joint.

Cheers guys , it's been back to the garage we bought it from and has been checked so hopefully not a broken spring!! They changed the shocker as they couldn't see anything else wrong, maybe it's just me being fussy as the noise is only slight but only from the one side , i may just have to let it develop,

I would check the amount of free play on the ball joint at the end of the drop link. I had a similar issue and replacing the drop link cured it.
