hey guys!
i was coming back home from my holidays with my girlfriend and i noticed in my MFD that the oil Temp was 122 Celsius and it look like every refresh reading was giving me other reading like 125,127,109,114,
i have never experience this before. i had my car on cruise 115km/h .usually when i drive same distance ( an hour drive ) will go tops 104 Celsius but if the temperature will rise will go slowly up 1 Celsius a time but this time it was going up and downs in seconds. my engine temp was all the time in the middle ( 90 Celsius ) and when i came back home i checked the oil level and was full. any one else had a similar problem? my car is stock and no check engine light was on , only my oil temp will show random readings the only thing i can think is that i have a faulty oil temp sensor...
oli temp faulty?

Re: oli temp faulty?
It's a combined oil level and oil temperature sensor which is located in the sump. It does sound like a faulty sensor.
Item 6 in the following link
http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/ca ... 908/lang/e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For reference the coolant temp sensor is "corrected" to display 90 over the temperature range 75 to 105 so doesn't display real-time temperature.

Re: oli temp faulty?
Easy fix and do an oil and filter change at the same time. Personally I would buy sensor from TPS or Dealer to get a quality part and 2 year warranty on the part.
Drain oil
Replace oil filter
Unplug cable harness from sensor.
Unscrew sensor
Fit new sensor with new O ring.
Plug cable harness onto new sensor
Refill oil and check for leaks and hopefully your problem is solved.

Re: oli temp faulty?
TPS is Trade Parts Specialist and are a subsidiary of VAG and supply all the OEM parts to VAG franchises. They are trade only but some branches sell to the public and if they do they are slightly cheaper than the dealer.
