Just had a read and some great work. Did you get round to sorting the xenons, chain tensioner or tow eye cover?

Hello,

So i ended up purchasing Garys Scirocco last month and thought i'd provide an update on here to continue the thread rather than lose all these updates and start a new one.

The car was in need of some TLC as it has been stood a while but i negotiated this into the price, so i thought! To be honest so far it has been a complete headache but im making progress :)

Like any new purchase it's hard to spot all niggles and I took a gamble buying the car with little MOT left. Now i know why Gary was keen to move it on before this expired and I've had no response from him to my queries since

anyways, the car failed the MOT on a broken xenon headlight, which typically worked upon purchase and for part of the MOT but was intermittent at best, also the beam pattern was wrong and set for LHD so would dazzle oncoming cars here in the UK. Additionally there were no side lights or no rear fog light. To be fair, other than that the actual car was mechanically sound and in good condition, just the electricals were clearly not resolved by Gary.

so first off I have since purchased a brand new drivers side Valeo Xenon headlight unit which has been installed and works correctly :hyper:

Next up was the side lights and rear fog. Upon putting the side lights on, nothing happened and the DRLs turned off! I have since made a visit to audi-retrofits in Uxbridge who has stripped all of Garys wiring and refitted this so the DRLs work as normal and when the side lights are put on, the DRLS remain on. This should suffice for the MOT so im told.

Next up he took a look at the rear fog, as Gary had mentioned in this thread he had trouble coding it in. Ash did all the required coding but nothing happened, we finally twigged that Gary had purchased lights from Europe thus the LED fog light was on the wrong side, a quick swap over of lights confirmed this as the fog light worked :grumpy:

So i knew the coding was resolved for the rear fog but i still had no rear fog light. Luckily that night a saw a brand new UK unit on ebay so snapped this up and fitted last night and at last, I have a working rear fog light, so the rear lights are finally all coded as if they were OEM!

Now unfortunately the passenger Xenon has begun to fail and i've noticed some water in that area, so ive purchased a new ballast pack and hope that this cures the issue, also i've order a new rear dust cover as this light was missing these, hence how the water has likely entered the unit. Im hoping this will cure the issue but we shall see. If not i might need another new xenon unit :grumpy:

So thats the current position, the car is booked in for a thorough service and new MOT next week and fingers crossed, the passenger xenon will be sorted by then with the new ballast, hopefully arriving tonight , i've also purchased 2 new rear anti-roll bar links as theze were noted to have some play on the MOT.

Once this has all been done I'll be looking for 2 new front tyres, an air con service as it has a slight musty smell from lack of use and i want to get the front bumper resprayed as its peppered with stone chips and side skirts refitted professionally as they're not quite perfect.

Once all that has been done ill have spent a small fortune  but the car will be near perfect condition. Overall i'm still feeling the love and despite the electrical short comings, Gary has put a lot of effort into the rest of the car and it just needed some TLC.

I appreciate this is a bit boring without pics so ill try and remember to update them as i go.

Thanks
Craig

Craig

Thanks for the update. Good to see someone dedicated on resolving the problems on what sounds like a troubled car, the coding and electronics is always a nightmare.

Hopefully you will have it sorted and then can enjoy this beast and all of the rest of the great work that's been done to it!

Appreciate the comment.

again I need to see about uploading photos. Unfortunately I needed a new passenger Xenon, the current one was water damaged and beyond salvage, plus in my OCD a new one would match the drivers side. Anyway the good news is that all electrical niggles have been resolved!

I have now replaced both bi-xenon headlights with new correct UK RHD Valeo ones and had them set up correctly.

All is working and the car flew through the MOT. All lights work as OEM including xenons, indicators, rear fogs and LED rear lights.

I also had both anti-roll bar links replaced so there are now no squeaks or rattles from the rear end. The car is smooth and drives very well and has just had a full service, including oil, coolant and brake fluid.

I had 2 new eagle f1s fitted at the weekend so new fresh rubber on the front and the car is currently with Kustom Kolors in Christchurch to tidy up the stone chipped front bumper and the side skirts.

Ill take some photos when I have the car back and it should be mint and flawless, fingers crossed as my bank balance has taken a hammering! But all work needed has been done :)

What kind of price were you quoted for the bumper chip repairs? Mine has chips on the bonnet and bumper.. and for my repairs with Oryx White I was quoted £1100 :/

Kustom Kolors have given a ball park of £350 to remove, prep and repaint front bumper and remove, clean up and professionally refit both side skirts as the paint was fine but they were coming away from the bodywork. KK have a very good rep too so not a cheap back alley job.

For a bonnet and bumper id expect a price of around £400-500 for a top job. Was your quote from VW directly?

It was a local bodyshop called Finishline. The quote says:

"To remove and strip exterior mouldings and trims to the bonnet, N/S/F wing and O/S/F wing. Repair damage to bonnet chips. Prepare and paint repaired panel, blending to the O/S/F wing and N/S/F wing, basecoat and lacquer. Re assemble vehicle." £1012 inc vat.

I'm not sure if they are accounting for the fact the front bumpber has a splitter on it? Also not sure what they mean by mouldings and trims? I have mud flaps and a front splitter that is all.
