My roc might be mapped! Need bigger brakes!

Post by shrink »

I bought myself an R fairly recently and I bought it on age, mileage, condition. Paid a decent price for a great example.

It always felt quicker than the figures suggested, but today it definitely showed itself to be more than it should be.

A good friend of mine purchased a new Porsche Baxter spyder as a bit of a summer fun car, and weather being kind to us, we went out for a run today. It's had a new exhaust system and remap on it and runs around 400bhp.

Not on the longest straight could he pull away from me. At one point he let me overtake so I had the lead, and he had to pull all the stops out to maintain pace.

That doesn't seem possible from what should be a 265bhp car,

So beyond a rolling road, is there any way to tell if my car has been remapped!

On a separate note, where the Porsche did piss all over me was braking. The roc seriously ran out of brakes on more than one occasion. So I'd appreciate any recommendations for how to improve the braking performance of the car without necessarily going down the £1200 forge brake kit route!

my car feels quicker than the figures too, it can still surprise me from time to time just when I've thought i've sussed it out:) so have held off mapping. An after party air intake really opens the engine up and I swear has made the exhaust sound better but may be imagining things!

I think there's a difference between feeling quick and maintaining pace with a lightweight 400bhp Porsche lol

I need to investigate as I'm concerned about the insurance and maintenance implications! I just wanted a standard car

Take it to a place the does remapping and they'll be able to plug it in and tell you if it has the standard map or not. Regarding insurance, I guess if you weren't informed before you bought it then you could plead ignorance??

I had a chat with the guy who remapped mine and he said that unless an investigator went specifically looking for a remap, there's no way anyone would tell. Saying that, I decided to declare mine and pay the extra cash for peace of mind, worked out £100 more over the course of a year.

Your R brakes will be better than my 2.0 TSi ones, but agree with you on the poor performance. I don't want to spend a fortune on a big brake kit, plus I think it would be overkill, so just gonna get new pads and discs all round. Going to go for Tarox G88 discs and Strada pads on the front, Bosch pads and discs on the rear (bog standard but should be decent quality being Bosch).

Standard revo prices I imagine. They are just a revo franchise

Hope they give me a reasonable answer!
