2.0tsi DSG Questions/Concerns

Post by supermoto552 »

Alright everyone...as a few of you know I picked up my scirocco a couple of weeks ago....I'm loving nearly every minute of it so far!

However I've got one slight niggle so far, which I'm worrying might be costly.

Obviously it didn't show up on the test drive as the car never got fully warm as I asked to see it cold as I wanted to listen out for any chain tensioner rattles at cold start up (which was all silent and nice)

The problem I'm experiencing is when the gearbox downshifts into 2nd gear in 'D' mode around say a slow corner or coming to a stop it feels jerky and a bit lumpy, I bit like the revs drops and raise making me feel like a Learner :( so I have to almost be so gentle with the brake and let of everything to control it till it's ok....now it only does it when it's been driven and got hot for say 20miles is when It comes on, and it's only really tight slow corners or traffic.

I've tried slowing down through the gears in manual and it doesn't seem to do it then.

Has anyone else experienced this with the 6spd DSG box? Or know of any solutions or what it may be??

I know I'm going to have to get used to driving a DSG and I feel like I'm doing really well with and all changes are smooth up and down the box and pulling off is fine but when it's hot and been driven a while the jerkyness is slightly annoying me now

What do reckon guys?

How many miles since it was last serviced? They're supposed to be done every 40k miles and would be my first port of call, it's part of the fixed price scheme and costs £179 and takes about 2 hours.

Now I don't have paddles in my DSG 'Rocco and find all changes smooth but then I'm not trying to second guess it really.

It had the DSG serviced at 43,000 and its on 67,000...are these signs the oil maybe getting old? Hence occurring when the oil in transmission has heated up?

I honestly don't know but it would be the first thing to check.

Ah ok, didn't realise it was that price, thought it was dearer for some reason, maybe worth a try. It just seems weird, there's definitely something not quite right as it drives fine and smooth when I set off to work but by the time I pull into work it's started to do this funny on off feeling when trying to go slow. I noticed also on the drive home from picking it up (150miles) but only when we were stuck in a slow crawling traffic jam.

If bought from a dealership - take it back, explain the problem and ask them to perform any software updates for the gearbox and also do a clutch re-adaption / basic settings (they will know what this is)

Downshifts in to 2nd have always been a bit abrupt. Worth getting it looked at just to be sure though.

Thanks guys, I did however by privately which I new was a risk...although I took my laptop and gave it a full Vcds scan and no errors were present to do with that, only a key fob battery error.

The software update part and reset sounds like it might be a good idea though, is this something VW offer as a standalone charge or would it need the full service?

The downshift into 2 isn't really the problem, it's more when it's in 2nd and I'm touching the brake slightly the engine revs sort of dips and it kangaroos almost.

If you have VCDS, the clutch adaption / basic settings you can do yourself.
Follow the instructions here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... _(DSG/02E)

VW will do a software update for you but will probably charge £70 for it.
