Now i'm going to make an educated guess here but I think the 1.4 tsi 160 (twincharger) is going to be one of those on that list when they eventually announce it, or at the very least it should be!
Back in 2010 they did a service campaign and further updates, updating the ECU in every car that was bought in for a service.
One of the updates was to reduce the chance of the engine self destructing by piston failure - a problem that was occurring in alarming numbers before this update (although it still occurs for various other reasons just less frequently). After the update people reported worse MPG.
The reason for this is the update addressed an issue with the engine running too lean - resulting in too high an operating temp in the cylinder etc. To fix this they increased fueling across various points in the map, reducing combustion temps and piston stress....but in doing so increasing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
Did they tell customers that their car is now using more fuel? - nope....did they change their marketing figures? - nope. Did newer revisions of the same CAVD engines get retested for CO2 or emissions - nope!
They just spouted the same figures all the way until they stopped production of the CAVD engine.
They have confirmed that the cars will be retested and the emissions rebanded -which I assume will end up with the customer paying more road tax!, man I can already hear the spam phone calls.......'Have you been involved in an emissions scandal that was not your fault?'
