This is my first post, so please be gentle.
I know this question has been asked on numerous occasions, but there seems to be so much old and conflicting information out there, I'd like to try and get accurate answers to my questions all in one place.
I'm picking up a 2011 Scirocco TDi GT 170 next week which is currently fitted with an RCD510 non DAB head unit, factory bluetooth, multifunction steering wheel and Dynaudio.
I've decided I want Sat Nav and DAB, so I've purchased an RNS510 V12 DAB unit (Serial number: 1T0 035 686 E) with GPS antenna, along with a "Retrofit kit DAB / DAB+ antenna module (ID:39337)" from Kufatec UK, and a Ross-Tech VAGCOM tool.
My questions are:
Will my current factory fitted Bluetooth work with the new headunit without any modifications?
Do I need to remove the "compass" from above the back window?
Will all the existing wiring plug straight back into the new unit without any modification?
Is the DAB amplifier a straight swap for the standard AM/FM one under the rear right side window?
Which settings will need to be changed using VAGCOM? I've read of people with Dynaudio experiencing problems.
Are there any other pitfalls I need to be aware of? I really don't want to nacker anything on my new motor.
Please forgive me for raking over old ground, it's just that so many things were written back in 2009/10, I'm worried that some stuff may have changed.
RCD510 to RNS510 Upgrade.

Re: RCD510 to RNS510 Upgrade.
Morning,
I hope to help, some of this stuff, as you said is old ground.
My answers are:
1) Yes, your current bluetooth module (if you car does have one) should fit straight into the RNS510 you have purchased. The functionality with your phone of course, is something you will have to discover yourself. (that is, if the system currently works with your phone, there should be no change).
2) There is no "compass" on the back window... The GPS antenna for NAV cars should be situated in the shark-fin antenna on the roof (I believe). With your new RNS, you should have received it with a GPS antenna - Install this above the central vents OR channel it to the hole above the glove box
3) Yes, existing wiring is fine. Both products are made to work with VW cars
4) DAB is a complex question. I believe (from past threads), that you might need to swap out the amplifier located below one of the rear windows... As you said, it could be a straight swap for the AM/FM one, but there is a thread with definite info on this
5) Settings to change on VAGCOM are minimal, providing your car ALREADY has bluetooth; in this case, you will only need to activate the NAV display on your MDF.
6) I have installed bluetooth in my motor, along with RNS510 (no DAB), and there are no pitfalls according to my knowledge.
Lastly, a lot of the info on bluetooth, RNS510 and DAB are about a year or two old. These should all still apply to your motor - let me know if you need more help

Thats great, thanks. You've put my mind at rest with a lot of things. I think my main concern was that with the information being a few years old wether any software upgrades had been released since it was written that might cause any problems. It sounds like I shouldn't have too much to worry about.

I can confirm that you will need to replace the amplifier under the RHS rear window with a combined FM DAB unit and run an additional cable from the amplifier to the DAB unit. The amplifier part number is 1K8-035-552-F. Make sure of the 'F', others are only FM. You need Fakra connectors for the cable at each end. Ok. It's all installed and working well except for one thing. The Tone button doesn't seem to be working. I press it and nothing happens. Is this likely to be a fault with the unit, or a fault in the coding? I can't see any fault codes that relate to it.

Not coding, likely to be unit fault... I cant even remember what the "tone" button doesampo1975 wrote:Ok. It's all installed and working well except for one thing. It is the balance/fader/bass/etc control.

Yep, it works on mine! Adjusted it only once.
It will definitely not be a coding issue. So speak to the person you got the RNS from
