Is there any "hassle free" upgrade to my unit?I.e. the one that displays the temperature digitally?

I think you have the 'Climatic' air con system there, not the 'Climatronic' climate control. Very confusingly named choice of systems. Unfortunately, the Climatic, whilst decent as air con installations go, is an analogue system and I don't think there is any upgrade route. VW wouldn't have offered one as they want to sell Climatronic and I haven't seen an aftermarket one.
