So, I thought I'd be a good idea to get the front windows of my Roc tinted. I checked the legal position - front windows must let at least 70% of light through. OK, that allows me to get a 30%film applied, right ? Wrong. Apparently, clear glass only allows 86% of light through (not so clear, after all!). OK, so that allows me to get a 16% film applied, right? Wrong. Apparently, the tint that most manufacturers apply to standard glass pretty much takes that allowance up. So, no tints after all. Interestingly, I had contacted a number of local tinting companies to enquire about getting them done and only one came back with this being a big no-no (big thanks to South Coast Tints for being so honest).
There may be some finer technical points associated with this, but I thought I'd post a heads up.

Re: Front window tints
Yeah as Andy said it's been that way for a long time. Doesn't stop people risking it though. I've had 4 cars in the past tinted,I just went with the lightest film, luckily I never had any run ins with the 5 0
