New cruise stalk and controller

Post by robreg5 »

Hi all. I'm going to fit a cruise control stalk and new steering wheel controller to my 2013 scirocco r. If I fit the new controller will I then be able to drive the car to someone to code the new stalk in or will the car not drive due to it being a new controller and not having any coding? My car has the later twin stalk and slip ring controller like later mk6 golfs.

Cheers.

I suspect the car will drive, however, some of your stalk's functionality might be missing. How much of it will depend on how different your car is from the one you are getting the slip ring from.
Personally: I wouldnt risk it. why dont you do your installation at the guy's house? just take your tools with you and sort it out there and then

A lot will depend on whether the brand new module comes with any coding in it at all !
If there is non then you will certainly have a loss if functionality and probably a few warning lights too - whether it will actually stop you from driving , I don't know.

Ideally , you'd use vag com to 'copy & paste' the coding from your old module to the new one , and then apply the cruise tweaks.

I did mine and what essentially happens is the car forgets your steering wheel is there so you have to "re enable" it via the vag com. Took a while but my man sorted it

I got the whole cruise system fitted for 199 from vw in Lincoln on my 2010, seemed pretty cheap considering part prices on ebay
