possible purchase opinions required

Post by Shaun1982 »

evening boys & girls.
I viewed this car last Sunday, nice car bar a few little bits, minor scuffs on front wheels, couple of poor touch ins on the bonnet, tiny(less the finger nail sized) ding on ns 1/4 & a scuff on the ns moulding. Other than that it was in real good condition.
It's an ex fleet car so it's had everything it's ever needed ,no Cambelt change yet though.
Any chance you could have a peep at this and fire your opinions this way?
Thanks in advance, hopefully the link works lol.

From the pics it does look very clean but yes, has cloth seats as leather was an expensive option at the time.

I would suggest it is a bit overpriced, I would be trying to haggle down nearer to £12K on that one. No Sat Nav either but looks reasonable on the face of it.

Cheers for the replies people, I'm not that fussed on leather, works better if it has cloth I think as the dog will be in it at times :)
When I enquired about it I was offered £4500 trade in for my 03 350z against it. Weirdly it was priced at £13488 on autotrader, £13788 on eBay & finally £13995 on their site but I offered them £9000 & my car making a total of £13500.
Different story when I got there though, offered me £4000 then upped it to £4250 so I had to walk away being short that extra bit.

To be honest I'm struggling to find another 170 tdi about without more miles or being a 140,at least without having to travel 150+ miles each way for similar prices. I've searched eBay, autotrader, pistonheads & gumtree for one so far lol.

Oh & the place these guys got the car from still has it on their site at £13490 I think. Lol

Yes difficult one Shaun, I take it you have not test driven it?

Maybe my £12K was a little bit optimistic but I would be wanting them it improve on the offer on your PX or take more off the Roc.

Failing that I would be looking at other ways of improving the deal, full tank of fuel, years tax, warranty and so on. The 170 is a desirable car so yes, they probably will be few and far between in that particular price bracket.

I did take it around a loop by the dealers house( they moved away from forecourts in favour of storage & becoming appointment only) so I only got a few minutes in it at 30 & 40mph. No knocks or anything just a little plasticy rattle somewhere around the dash area I thought, we were in total silence though at the time. Even a low radio volume would cover it up.
To be fair I don't think the zed is worth a huge amount more than the £4500 I was originally offered, I'd let it go for £5000 on a private sale if need be & obviously you pay for a trade in for the fact there's no messing about with buyers that time waste etc leading me to think it's £500 less for no hassle lol.
Here's the zed by the way :)
