GTS?

Post by GTScotland »

Good afternoon SC

I am currently weighting up my options for a new car come the 3 year mark in march!
I am driving the basic 160 DSG candy white just now but I am feeling more adventurous this time and have decided on the GTS, I am seeing a lot of dislike for the stripes on here but having never seen the strips in any reasonable pictures, except the few on google search, I was looking to see if anyone on here had their own they could upload for me to check out?
I am leaning towards the Grey option at the moment so more of them would be great.
Going with the 170 Diesel engine this time DSG, getting lazy :D
Not having many features on the Roc I have just now are there any essentials anyone can recommend to add to the GTS?
Thanks
Greg

I've just ordered a Indium Grey GTS.

There aren't many pictures of the Indium GTS around, but in that colour the stripes don't seem to be quite as 'in yer face' as they do on the white or black versions, imo. I'm going to keep them for a while and see how I like them. If not, they are only vinyl, so I'll get them removed and change/paint the mirror caps.

I have added Xenons & smoking pack. I don't smoke, but it looks better, imo.

This is the best pic I have found so far.

Mine will have the 18" Thunder wheels, though.

Thanks for the reply!
Do you have a delivery date yet? I was told in the dealership there’s around a 4 month wait?
Agree with you on the more subtle strips on the Indium.
I will go with the 18" Thunders too, love the sound of the red callipers on your options box, getting that done from WV?
Just wondering what changes with the smoking pack?

No worries. Welcome to the forum, btw.

No delivery date yet. I placed my order around 10 days ago and it's still showing at stage 1 (order is being processed) on the tracker. I believe there is some sort of dealer allocation process VW use, which can make this stage longer for some than others. Obviously, the GTS being not as common as other models will affect this too, I'd expect. My dealer initially quoted me 12-14 weeks....but I think that's just the standard sales patter. It may be sooner, it may be longer.

Red calipers are standard on the petrol versions, but not the diesel, I believe.

With no smoking pack, you just get an open cubby hole in front of the gear-stick. Smoking pack covers it up, which looks neater, imo. Many people will retro fit them and there are plenty of posts on here showing how to do it.

Thank you!

I am not too worried about my delivery date as long as its before march! :)

I see what you mean now, have it on mine just now and never even realised.
Im going to have to investigate these red calipers, they will look awesome!
Everyone seems to love the Xenons is there a massive advantage to justify the price tag?

I think where you live makes a massive difference as to how desirable xenon’s are.

I live in Central London and I honestly can't remember the last time I used the main beams of the headlights so for me they were not worth spending the money on. If you live in the countryside or a small village and often drive on unlit roads then the better light from them will be far more useful. In that case you could almost justify them on safety grounds.

I don't know if a GTS has electric folding mirrors as standard but that’s an option box I would tick if it doesn't. I have them and use them all the time, Maybe parking on the mean streets of Central London also makes them more useful than if you parked overnight in your driveway or garage in a quiet village.

i think you are missing the point on xenons, there working range is far better on dipped beam compared to no xenon units let alone main beam, you really notice this on motorways when you pass a non xenon car how you get more range

once you have had them there is no going back

i'm surprised VW haven't put them as standard issue before the facelift

Ok, Fair enough, Ill have to consider them anyways seeing I do quite a lot of unlit roads.

Going to put the order in tomorrow afternoon!
Excited!

Are there any last minutes additions I need to consider? :)

Commuting to work on the well lit Chelsea Embankment during those dark winter mornings I've not missed Xenons once. Streetlights, 30mph speed limit, crawling traffic, I could turn my lights off completely (Well, if "off" meant "off") and still see where I was going.

I know it's probably different in deepest, darkest Scotland. Thats my point.

No folding mirrors as standard and I didn't choose them. They're good if you park on a road, but mine will only be on a drive or in car-parks, more often than not. With that in mind, if I use them, they are basically a massive sign to people that states "You should definitely walk down the side of my car with your shopping, rather than anyone elses"....so I decided they'd never get used. Some people will find them a god-send, of course.

I would love another petrol but at the ripe old age of 23 I have to consider the MPG this time, only getting 35-38 miles to the gallon out of the 160 DSG just now!
