So guys
My car went in to Volkswagen yesterday for a standard DSG Oil change, during the time they had the car, i thought they should have a look at a few niggles i was concerned about, but just never had time to drop it in.
So i get the call to say hey the oil change is done BUT the steering rack needs replacing as does the right drivers speaker which is where all the driverside rattle noise was coming from i suppose.
I hope this is covered under warranty otherwise i will have a big hefty bill which im gonna be so f##king pee;d off about.
Ahhhhhh so annoying right about now. i am pretty sure it is covered non the less.
Anyone know how this could of happend. causes? happend to anybody before?

Re: Problems Problems
Sorry to hear about this - but asking the dealer if the repairs are covered under warranty would be the first thing to do. You could also ask them for their opinion about the causes too - and then maybe post it here and see what others think....

Re: Problems Problems
This is bad news, first I have heard of a new steering rack being reqd. Is there a leak from the current rack? Does not sound right to me on a car that is less than 3 years old.

I know a lot of racks were replaced on Golfs and A3s back in 2005/06 when the electric system was introduced as they used to grind and groan. Not heard of any issues on more recent cars.

Re: Problems Problems
Maybe not Bob, not sure how these electric power steering systems work, I would have thought there would be some hydraulic fluid in there. I know a Ford of ours some years back required a new steering rack because of a fluid leak, but I would imagine the rack on a Scirocco is somewhat different. Is there anything to leak as it's electric?

Re: Problems Problems
they havnt given me much information to it. they just say the good will declined , and now they are going through warranty. all they say is a new steering rack is needed.
i will let you know any more info if i can but the dealer says in his experience it is covered.

Re: Problems Problems
So VW didnt contact me like they said they would. I called them everyday since wednesday but never heard a thing. i got onto customer care on monday and they sorted it out for me. they were acting like it was some sort of test for a new steering rack to be replaced. i was so fuming with her to say its not a game or test. its a failure on a part of a car 3 years old that is an impossibility the way i have been driving.
but anyway goods news it did pass the whatever test they do . and will be getting replaced on thursday. along with a driver speaker.
