Buying my dream car!

Post by Coachen »

Ever since I saw the firs (new) Scirocco back at my VW dealer back in 2008 I have been totaly lost in the dream of one time getting one of these gems of a car.
I would have bought it back then but with a baby on the way I had to do the most reasonable thing and bought a VW passat instead..

But now the kids don`t use a stroller anymore so the big backspace isn`t needed anymore, I hope the back seats fit child seats thou :)

So to the choosen car.
I have one that my eyes have fallen for:

http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object ... e=40033664" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The white model is without doubt the best looking ones I think, the black parts make the lines even more visual appealing I think.
Could you guys with alot of excperience take a look at the pictures and give me some feedback? I guess you wont understand much of the text but a pictures says more than 1000 words or something
I did some digging to get the hold of the last owner of this car (not the used retailer selling it now) He only had good things to say about it and missed it alot.
He had not "chipped" it but he had changed the exhaust to a 2,5" and a airfilter kit. (My VW dealer adviced me to change the filter back to original)
He had also ha the car on a racing test track a few times to try out the car. Only to test its high speeds not reckless driving he said. Guess the engine won`t take to much damage from that?

This was not ment to be a long post but look now... Wall of text :-/
I hope you excperienced guys would give me som pointers from what you read and see at the link above.
What should I look for when I check out the car at the dealer?

No one with some tips for me?! :-(

I see that there are a post here about windows problems in cold winters, is this a problem only with the UK models or do we in Norway have the same model as you guys? Since we got so cold winters we usually get cars made for our climate..

Hei! Ser du er fra Norge!
Hello! I see you are from Norway!

I have a scirocco and I live in Norway in Lofoten. As you mention yes the windows freeze, bit of a hazzle that! It is definitely not a very practical car as its low, 2 door, and so on but I love my car. I don´t have children so I haven´t tried a child seat in there. It should work fine, the scirocco has iso fix. If you have a garage to put the car I don´t think the windows should be an issue. The Finn.no ad looks okay. One thing though, if you are going to lower it sometime in the future, the car that you have linked to have adjustable ridecomfort. If you want to lower it, it will be more expensive to get correct coilovers, than the standard without ridecomfort adjustment.

Can't help regarding previous owner using as a track car . But yes the windows do tend to stick when it's freezing temperatures regardless of where the car is bought from. Some people have used a silicone based product between the sill to prevent sticking. I bought gumi pledge to protect seals and helps them stop sticking.

The search will throw up a lot of posts to read regarding sticking windows and any problems people might of encountered.

I'm sure some one will be along soon and answer your question regarding the car being used on a track day.

I have no plan lowering it so that won`t be a problem.
I like the idea to change the driving comfort as this car can (Sport/Comfort)
About the freezing, is it just that the windows won`t go down or is it difficult to open the doors as I have seen complaints about in here?

And about the track thing.
It hasn`t been used regulary on a track, just tried out a few times the 3 years the last owner had it

Iv only had windows sticking. Haven't had frozen door locks. If windows freeze and they don't drop you can't get in the car until they have defrosted. Happens with all frameless doors. If its only been used few times I would say its fine.

This window problem in winter are making my choice even harder.
Was pretty determed on the one I have linked but with long cold winters like we have in Norway (Several months with -10 or above)
I know it will be VERY annoying struggeling with the windows when going home from work.
What to do, what to do....

I got the impression the window freeze thing is less of an issue with 'dry cold' in areas such as Scandanavia (as opposed to UK) but probably worth a search on the forum...

It is definitely a problem when you get ice on the window. If it´s just cold the window will pop down!
