Bluetooth again... Sorry

Hi all,
New member just picked up my beautiful 2011 scirocco 2.0 tsi and have a bit of a question. I've tried searching the subject but there's so much information out there, it's a bit of a mine field.
I have the standard head unit in my car, the rcd-510 I believe. It's the touch screen with the 6 stack CD player.
Looking to get Bluetooth for it, went to vw and they said I need this separate Bluetooth box with screen, something separate to my head unit.
Just wondered if I could get Bluetooth working through my existing head unit and if so how and what do I need?
Also how hard would it be to change my head unit over to the rns-510 and add Bluetooth that way, I believe I'd also gain sat nav this way?
Many thanks everyone
Beth

You can get the original blueooth kit that installs under the driver seat with all the hanresses,
mic etc, which all operates through the headunit and multi function steering wheel (if fitted), and positions the microphone into the overhead panel in the
roof. Much better than the rebranded "Bury" systems the dealers are selling.
If will need programming with VCDS, but it's a pretty straight forward install, with no wires to cut.
See here (for example)

Thanks for the reply. With regards to this programming, is this an easy thing to do or will I have to take the car to vw? Also how hard is it to fit this Bluetooth kit?
Many thanks
Beth

have you checked you don't have bluetooth already? Not sure how you'd check other than maybe going through the MFD for phone options?

Just check under the drivers seat for a Bluetooth module, that's where they are normally located when factory installed.

Beth,
Some dealers may not want to play ball (even though its a 5 minute job, others are more accomodating. Best bet is to find someone near you that has VCDS and see if they will do it for you. It bascially just involves ticking the telephone module option in the CAN Gateway.
With regards to fitting, it's pretty easy (as it's all plug and play with no splicing of wires). Although the bluetooth box unsually gets installed under the drivers seat, there is actually space behind the head unit to fit it there as well. TBH the hardest part is running the
mic wire. As this needs to run down the passengers A pillar and to do it properly, it needs to go behind and away from the curtain airbag (so that it doesn't foul if the airbag deploys). This obviously involves removing the A-pillar trim (no big job in itself), then carefully running the wire from the
mic unit which you install in the overhead trim compartment (where the interior light is - just snaps in place), down the A-pillar then fishing it out in the passenger foot well. It makes the job much easier if you also remove the glovebox (which again is only a 10 minute job - just screws). Then tidy up the cable and plug into the loom. that's it really.
Did it in the wifes new Polo (although I installed the bluetooth box behind the passenger side wheel arch trim under the glovebox as there was plenty of space). including coding and running the
mic wire, it took about 1½ hours from start to finish. Also did it in my old MK5 Golf in a similar time.
Out of interest, do you have a multi function steering wheel, and a full height driver information screen (DIS) between the speedo and rev counter - and is this white digits or red ?

I am resurrecting this topic again - sorry guys!
Has anyone got a bury system, which they have taken out and replaced with the original VW bluetooth module?
I am looking to do this - I have the rebranded bury and an RCD510 currently installed.
My plan is to get an RNS510, and fit in the factory bluetooth to work with it.
I gather from reading the roccopedia and this topic, that fitting the microphone is the hardest bit. However, I already have a mic installed in the A-Pillar, and this works with the bury kit.
Now, I am not sure what I need to change. Questions:
1) does this bury mic already run to the back of the head unit, ready to be transferred to the RNS 510?
2) Are there cables under the seat, ready to take the original VW module for plug and play?
I currently have a 2.0tdi courtesy car with an RNS315 installed, I might study the module under the seat to see how the cabling is.
Any help appreciated

re the mic, why not pop the a pillar off (instructions in the fitting fiscon article on roccopedia) and trace the wire back

There won't be cabling under the seat. This is only installed if Bluetooth is spec'd at factory.
Most retrofits even avoid running cables under the seat as it's too much trouble, and instead above everything beneath the RNS/RCD behind the climate controls.
My advice would be replace the whole kit if you want VW bluetooth. I doubt the bury mic would have the right connector to fit into the OEM Bluetooth loom and most kits come with a new mic anyway, which I believe is more discreet especially if you install in the overhead light instead of the a pillar

trix - I thought about doing this, I am doing it today. I just get worried about breaking something.
Maq - I looked under the seat of the courtesy car I had, and it wasn't as I expected even. I thought I would see the module on the floor below the seat, but all I saw was cabling... This could have been for the heated seat - all so confusing. I might have to install myself... I see you have done this; what was most challenging?

The install itself is easy as long as you're patient and get all the right tools, VCDS and read up on the pinouts in case you have to tweak the microphone connection in the loom.
My-gti has all the info you need about the pinouts, and it's worth investing in some cheap trim removal tools or using something like a credit card to pop trim so nothing gets damaged. Also get some anti rattle tape and anti slip matt to help with a rattle free install
Happy to answer any questions you might have. Agree that the cabling under passenger seat will be for heated seats and airbag, OEM Bluetooth loom will not be installed.

Thanks for the info maq. Spent the morning trying to locate information, mostly on youtube - no success! So been looking at various guides - might try locate someone near me who has done the install, never done anything like it before and would hate for bits of my 'roc to be hanging off

.
Found a really good guide for the fiscon - I might end up getting that instead. Any disadvantages of the fiscon over the OEM VW kit you have installed?
Seems there are less likely to be
mic complications with the fiscon

To be honest, I found the fiscon a great bit of kit but a little bit less feature full than one of the official VW kits, which have nicer menus on the MFD and had more options, like BT audio streaming with track names.
I swapped my fiscon out and upgraded to an OEM and am much happier.

Wow! Interesting... It seems the fiscon is easier to install though :/. The OEM stuff seems cheaper on the other hand.
There are also three types of fiscon modules on the website! I might give it a rest tonight
