Hi all

I have tried searching but to no avail. Is there any details out there about retrofitting DAB to a white MFD model?

Hatter

the DAB is built in to the radio (see http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... &hilit=dab" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) so is not something that can be fitted as a separate entity, to retrofit it you would need to change out your radio headunit. Key Point though is this is assuming you have the RCD510 fitted as DAB is not available on the RNS510

so your only option currently if you want to fit DAB but not completely change out your radio headunit is to fit a separate unit like is discussed here

Thanks very much. So, I'd be looking at something like this: http://www.incar-emporium.com/product_i ... ts_id=2699" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have ordered the DAB option on my Roc. Just wandering as the button replaced is TIM to DAB. First what is TIM? also do you lose all functionality of TIM with the DAB or is it hidden in another menu somewhere?

Regards

Yes you do lose TIM if I'd have known I would haven't specced DAB as TIM is a cracking feature that has saved my bacon on previous cars

Traffic Information service..

I don't quite get how to work it so if anyone fancies starting a new topic on what it is & how it works & how to make it work for you then please do.

There is a 'traffic specific' channel on DAB but having 'TP' switched on (FM only in a non DAB system) will give you traffic reports as they happen on whichever radio station you designate (or leave it for the system to decide, usually the local stations obviously). If you have satnav you can get traffic reports and the system is capable of navigating you around it...if you choose to follow the re-route.

This is what I have worked out so far.

Or assuming you spec satnav and DAB you'll get traffic info on the satnav screen??

DAB can't currently be specified with the RNS510.

I'd have thought in a couple of years that they will bring out a kit to convert old units to DAB. Otherwise they'll have a lot of angry people when the digital switchover happens!

A bit like the angry bloke in the last question of a recent Sunday Times car clinic:

The TP button works when using DAB radio as it normally does on a FM radio. Is TIM just traffic reports from various radio stations that interupts your listening? if so, it is the same feature using TP on DAB.

I am sure I saw a in-car DB radio the other day. Not this one, but here is an option:

the joy of TIM was you can set it to record the traffic news at certain times, so when you get in the car in the morning you press TIM and it replays the traffic news its recorded (and saved my bacon)

That sounds like a fantastic feature. I havent come across that before. I guess the TP doent do the same job then!

RNS 510 displays traffic info on screen as is without DAB.

Interestingly there isn't a standard yet for TMC over DAB, so come digital switch over all current TMC devices will stop working. TMC (Traffic message channel) data broadcasts being different to TIM (Traffic information message) audio broadcasts. The fact DAB appears to be going nowhere across the rest of mainland Europe possibly hasn't helped car manufacturers / equipment supplier in justifying further development.

Can DAB be retro fited
