The Photography Topic

Post by Kev »

I know a few people here are in to a bit of the old snapping and I recently got in to it a bit myself so I thought maybe a topic of what you've got and some of the pics you've taken might be good.

I've got a Canon 550D with an 18-55 kit lens and a 70-300mm as well.

Took some pics in my parents garden a few weekends ago. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great. It was a bit overcast.

Another birdie one :)

Bright and sunny here last weekend so I went for a wander over to the scrub land behind where I live to try and get some flowers and insects. Bloody hell insects are hard to shoot! Saw loads of lovely bumble bees and butterflies, a black and red moth and a huge dragonfly but none of them landed anywhere near me to get a good shot. I was even walking along a track following a butterfly as it flitted in and out of a whole stack of flowers but did it land? Did it heck. Grrr. I think when I get a bit more proficient a macro lens might be worth a buy.

Anyway, ended up with a few odds and ends and a hugely lucky shot on a hover fly.

I was parked up in Sketty at my friends house. We walked down through the park (which is lovely) to the beach. Lovely part of the world. I tried to get some seagull pics too but as I got closer they edged away from me :)

Blimey you could have popped in for a cuppa! My workshops in Sketty
We had the Wales airshow a couple of weeks ago and we did the same -park in Sketty walk down through the park and sat on the beach watching the Red Arrows and the like - awesome

Took my trusty Olympus camera but forgot to check the batteries - Doh! so had to use my Iphone. Did get plenty of HD footage on the camcorder though

I went to the Harcourt Arboretum on saturday. Lovely place to wander round. They have Peacocks wandering round the grounds, sequoia's and lots of other trees.

I used a Sony DSC-R1 for many years, but right now I'm using a Canon EOS 60D, bought it just a couple of months ago, and here's a few of the latest I like:

Wasn't too bothered in the cup final today so I went up to Otmoor for a look around.

It's a bit desolate and a long walk but they have a hide to sit in and some reed screens and a reasonable amount of wildlife going on. I don't really have a meaty enough lens to get really good pictures of the birds as they're a bit too small and a bit too far away but I didn't do too bad. No huge flocks of starlings unfortunately. I think the reed beds are a little too dry for them at the moment apparently.
