Yeah I think he was.
There's a bit of confusion in the wording of the statement.

He was 4.6km from the start of the stage meaning he had already done that much of the course, not that he was on the way to it and was 4.6km from arriving.

So his hand was "crushed" that explains a lot then, specially with Titanium bolts. Jeez, I feel ill today, but nothing compared to what he is going through. Maybe we do get to see Senna's helmet in a JPG colour Lotus after all, but in horrible circumstances.

thats a real loss as i rate kubica (especially compared next to massa aka alonso bi'atch) and was hoping for better things this year, out of the rookies my vote would be for chandhok, however, i think they need someone with experience to develop the car, its about time Anthony Davidson reappeared in F1

definately not time for Davidson nor should it be. He is not well liked in the paddock and going by his commentary on the practise days he seems to moan a lot and hint what he`s done etc......trying to be a talking cv

The crash wasn't as bad until I saw that picture of the barrier. But where is this church wall he hit? His left hand was crushed, but the pics I am seeing don't add up. Well, I guess they won't unless a video appears. Any update on his condition?

I think it's on the right.
I wonder if he clipped the wall and got a tank slapper and ended up in the barrier on the left.

Quick run down of news from Twitter:

Kubica has been woken briefly from his induced coma this morning to assess his state. He recognised his parents and his girlfriend and was able to move his fingers on his right hand. One of the first things he asked was how his co-driver was doing. He will also need a second operation to continue repairs to his leg, arm and hand.

Last season for HRT? The lack of sponsors is very noticeable!
I wonder how much it would be for us to get on an end plate :)

Force India.

Doesn't look that different to last years except for the Merc style low air intake.

Wish someone else got that berth instead of HRT. Pathetic attempt at a team. Prodrive was much better suited, but meh. They keep saying they want this and that to open new avenues, but fact is, they always seem to flop. Infact, VAG should get in there and take it to the Italian and German manufacturers.

VAG have long been rumoured to be joining the game. I don't think we'll see any new big teams until the new engine rules come in in 2013.

As for the likes of HRT I don't know why some of these smaller teams don't pool resources to make one more credible option.

Looking at their lack of sponsors I'll be surprised to see them last the season.

Mastercard Lola from 97. At least they had more sponsors and were up against it more. HRT have it easy compared, but damn are they crap. Just no affection or pity for them. Most people are opinionated, I don't differ, but seriously, I don't care about HRT aside from the fact that I don't want them here in F1.
