Volkswagen Polo R WRC launched

Post by Kev »

Volkswagen has introduced the WRC version of the Polo R in Monaco last weekend.

Developed in collaboration with Carlos Sainz, Volkswagen needed more than 17 months for its rally-ready Polo. Under the hood it has a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter TSI engine producing 300 hp (224 kW) connected to a 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The tailgate, doors and wheel arch extensions are manufactured from carbon-Kevlar, helping the Polo R WRC tip the scales at only 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs). The car is 138mm wider than the production version, with a total width of 1,820mm.

Several other weight-saving measures can be found inside the cabin where the dashboard has been entirely stripped, while the seats have been moved back to improve the car's weight distribution.
