Have only just seen this review http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/th ... o-2-0-tdi/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Does not bode that well for anyone thinking of buying one!

The man is an idiot.
1. He says it's ugly when every other review Ive read disagrees
2. He says it's slow but picked the entry level tdi engine
3. He says it doesn't sound right and prefers the Golf GTi when they are 2 totally un comparable cars.
4. He says the gearing is all wrong when it's the same as half the worlds current Tdis

What about the great handling and fuel economy or the fact it's a Rocco :)

Clarkson has never liked diesels. I agree in so far as if you have a sporting coupe why are you messing about with diesel (unless you do a very high mileage when I can understand the choice)?

Yes - agree totally. I noticed on the last Top Gear, Clarkson made a point of empasising the Insignia 'Diesel' when the Stig was simulating the stopping distance article they had.

Absolute rubbish article, I have recently purchased the new shape 2.0 tdi, 148bhp and I can only imagine this model is more fun to drive than the 1.4 petrol, the torque is incredible even and so much fun. It definitely isn't 'slow' I absolutely love it!

It's not called diseasal for no reason. The fuel of satan. Dirty, stinky, smoky, tractor noise and slow. And now we know it's bad for your health too. Be banned soon due to the PM10s, PM0.5's or whatever they're called, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't say all diesels are slow. My uncles a8 4.2tdi goes like a rocket.
And Modern cars with dpfs are not smoky . Iv never seen smoke from my car.
Smoking cigarettes is bad for your health. So is taking drugs and alcohol and eating junk food. When are they all going to be banned aswel for being bad for your health.

Although I quite like JC I don't agree with everything he says
In fact I don't agree with pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth -
1 as a civil servant I'm a whinging money grabbing bas***d with a gilt edged pension - so wrong but not suitable for discussion here I believe
2 as a motorcyclist he also hates me
3 cyclist too - I'm practically the anti Christ !
4 now he's having a dig at my most favourite car

I actually have the article sitting on my desk just now - I read it a few weeks ago & it still sits there not in the rubbish where the words would have most of us put it but on top of my printer awaiting placement in Walters file

Why - nostalgia of course, the day I choose a car based on JC's recommendations I'll need to be as rich as those fat cat civil servants he hates so much, though why he hates them so much I don't know as he's as rich as Midas himself, ( though almost ironically I don't hate him for it ) he's earned it by being clever, witty and most of all opinionated

And we all know what he can do with his opinion of the Roc don't we ! :)

I'm a fan of JC but this review seems pretty unfair and too harsh, yes it's the 148bhp diesel so it will be slower than the Gti you've drove before...obviously!

I've placed an order for the 184bhp diesel GT with DSG and cannot WAIT to pick it up, I chose this over an A5 2.0 Tdi (177bhp) coupe simply because it was more fun to drive! I'm going to be starting a new job soon which will see me on the road alot and it will be a pure pleasure hopping into my roc every morning :)

As for diesels being slow...I'm trading in my 2.0 Tdi A3 (BKD) mapped to 180ish Bhp and my GOD the torque on that thing pulls like a train, such a fun car to drive, but alas it's high miles and need for a few things replaced does not bode well with the new job so it's had to go.

I saw on Dave about a year ago now a repeat of Top Gear from 2008 where the original Scirocco was road tested by Clarkson prob the 2.0TSI, he raved about it and didn't have a bad word to say. I only ever buy cars on personal choice and never take the advice on Top gear or any other Motoring Magazines. and Yes I have owned Peugeots and Vauxhall Vectras in the past, Clarksons most hated cars .
