Downpipe fitting

Post by mattyfitz »

I've got a couple of free hours to start my dp replacement, the only thing im worried about is the inside top bolt on the flange, people who have done this how hard was it to do with socket wrench? did you need a breaker bar.

I have soaked it in plusgas over night and will only undo a little before doing it back up, then repeating so that i dont snap the stud. Ive looked at the videos for the mk5/6's and it all looks fairly simple.

Any other pointers?

it can all be done from on top of the engine. I did mine with sockets and a spanner for the difficult to reach bolts.

Well gave it a crack, used plusgas (better than wd40) let it soak for 10 mins and they came off easily. The one which All the forums said was hard was quite easy

Last one under the cv shield to go tomorrow morning! Then fit the pipewerx sports cat dp and try and mate it to the milltek nom res

Any chance of a step by step? If you can do it all from top of the engine what needs taking out?

As Paradox is saying its fairly simple, i didnt do a guide as its not nice being under the car for that long.

Top bulk head bolt - normal socket wrench combo from top
Top Engine side bolt - extender bar with UJ and socket from top so that the wrench is in the gap to the left handside of the engine.
Bottom bulk head bolt - normal socket wrench combo from bottom
Bottom Engine side bolt - normal socket wrench combo from bottom

Follow this youtube guide, basically the same as our cars

Where are you based?

well i only had it on for a couple of days before the Stage 2 map, but it felt quicker to spool up and overall felt like it had more power.

The DP quailty was good, fitting is good so overall im happy with it and at £450(£250 for decat) alot cheaper than APR/Milltech.

It has its MOT on Friday so i will see what the emissions are like with it.
