R MPG

Post by tony4147 »

Thinking of chopping in my 2 lt TSI for an R.
Generally with the mixed driving I do I'm getting 34-36 out of the TSI, and have it 39/40 on a long run at 70.

What would I get out of one of the newer 280 bhp R's?

Ive only had mine 2 days.

I got 31.5 on an A road, trundling along at NSL this morning.

It's seems to be averaging around 28.8 at the moment, but as I say. Early days yet.

Also, as a point of pedantry, they are 280 PS ( a german engine power term). To get the 'BHP' figure (in itself a kind of made up one as it's derived from torque at particular revs) divide by 1.01387 which is 276.169 BHP. 8)

I did what you're considering - switched from the 210PS GT to the 280PS R. I was averaging 39-42mpg in the GT, and now averaging 32-35mpg in the R (after 12 months). This is over a range of road types. But I think that is a higher average than most - it all depends on your driving style in the end.

If increased fuel costs are your main concern with upgrading, I wouldn't worry about it - you probably wouldn't notice a drastic difference in real terms.

lol have I got a duff engine then. she does seem to drink oil

15mpg on way home today in bad traffic.

Absolute peak on motorway run was 33mpg

Normal motorway run might see 29-30mpg if I'm lucky

I don't care though:D

I've been getting around 25mpg since I got mine. I'm still in the 'new' stage so I don't exactly drive economically. I'll probably stay at this stage until I sell it. :D
