Reasonable Tyre Life?

Post by edwheels »

Just had my front tyres (18" - 1.4 160HP Pirelli C7s) replaced - got about 18,000 Miles out of them - replaced at just under 3mm left - guess I could have got a bit more out of them - last set got about 20,000 miles before replacing.

Is this about normal, good or bad for a Scirocco? Can't help but think it is a bit heavy on tyres - mixed miles - city, motorway, cross country. Seem to wear quite evenly.

What do you get out of yours?

I used to get 15-18k out of the fronts and about 40k on the rear.

That does seem pretty heavy wear, but it all depends on your driving style, I suppose. Mine is nearing 30,000 miles, with about 5mm left on all tyres. The car is 3 years old, and I swapped the front and rear tyres round to even out the wear. I think the tyres on my previous Scirocco (2.0 TSI GT) wore at the same rate.

The blog I wrote during my 7 years of ownership is still active (see sig link) if you want an idea of wear and tear lifespan and costs (at the time).
