Sounds as if the oil pump has failed unless there is a large pool of oil under the car.

The "tapping" sound you refer to kind of implies there is actually low oil pressure amd it's not a false warning so I wouldn't run it until the cause is identified.

Yeah I'm not planning on running it now. Hopefully can get it diagnosed and sorted soon.

Also are these cars a common problem is the timing chain tensioner?

Also no oil under the car after it left sitting there.

Have you dipped it to see if there is any oil in it?

Yeah checked the oil today and it was almost at the maximum mark on the dip stick.

Dug out a fault code reader so will plug it in and see what comes up.

I doubt the code reader will tell you much other than confirm "low oil pressure". If it wasn't "tapping" you could maybe risk it being a faulty sensor but you really need to connect an oil pressure gauge and confirm what the actual oil pressure is and whether the pump has failed.

I've also heard of cases where cheap oil filters have blocked and caused pressure related issues. It may be worth dumping the oil and filter and replace with OEM filter and a good quality 5w30 oil.

Yeah code reader gave me nothing to do with oil.

I had P0016,P000A,P0011
Camshaft related/timing by the looks of it.

And i agree could crack a quick oil and filter change.

Garage said the oil pressure was reading 1.5 bar but should be over 2.

He is going to drop the sump replace oil pump and pick up pipe as he said it is usually that that is the problem.

Oil pump and pick up pipe changed but the oil pressure is still low.

The engine when measured is running 1.75 bar pressure at 2000rpm.

The garage don't know why the pressure is still low after changing various o rings, oil filter housing, oil pump, pick up pipe and cleaning out all of the sump etc
Also there is no knocking on the engine they are baffled.

Moral of the story.

With everything replaced, only cause it can be is internally in the engine so it is going to have to be stripped down. There is a company near me who will rebuild the engine with a 2 year guarantee so think i will end up taking the plunge!

I think it was the part that was worn in the engine was at the top end. The camshaft.
