Clutch problem

Hi all, my better half has a problem with the clutch on her 2010 2.0 TDi scirocco. The clutch pedal is sticking to the floor, it will release if you pull it back up, sometimes it will stick again, others it will return to the correct position

I tried bleeding it tonight, there seemed to be a lot of air in the system, but no matter how much I bled it the pedal got no better.

I can't see any obvious leaks of fluid.

Does anyone have any bright ideas? My gut feeling is the master cylinder and unless anyone can suggest a way of specifically diagnosing the master or slave cylinders then I am thinking I will replace the master first as it's got to be easier to do than taking the gearbox off to get to the slave?!!

Does anyone have a link to a guide on changing one? I have had a search but I can't find one.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

The symptom you decide normally points to the slave cylinder being on its way out. Sometimes changing the fluid and bleeding it helps but ultimately it's a gearbox off job and a new slave cylinder. You're as well fitting a new clutch and flywheel at the same time so it can be a relatively expensive exercise.

Ok, thanks for your reply.

Is there any way of being able to diagnose the slave cylinder as the culprit with any degree of accuracy?

And next question, does anyone have a guide to taking off the gearbox?

Thanks - Simon

There is a lot of info on golf mk5/6 forums as it is essentially the same engine and gearbox. I used one a few years ago to do my clutch.
