Another newbie who has a nagging question.. I picked up my Scirocco last week from a main dealer. It is a 1.4 Tsi 160 on 18" alloys. It was registered in Feb. 2011 with 25,000 miles on the clock.
I have just noticed a judder at approx 10 mph when driving in Dsg mode, that lasts for only a second or two. It sounds like going over a worn cattle grid.
As soon as through 10 mph everything is fine.
Should I be concerned as my previous car Seat Altea had a Dsg box with no problem?
I have read about clutch packs on this forum, but being a total novice on mechanics would appreciate any help. The car still has nearly a years warranty and I am a little concerned as I am not mechanically minded.
Any help would be appreciated.
I do not wanting fobbing off from the franchised dealer if it is something that needs attending too.

Re: Another NEWBIE NEEDS HELP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS
Mine has the same horrible juddering when changing from 1st to 2nd. I took mine to the dealers a couple of months back and they did a gearbox software update. It did help but didn't cure the problem completely. Then the problem came back and is far worse than before, the whole car shaking.
So my car is now back at the dealers, and they have diagnosed the problem as a Mechatronic Control Unit fault/failure. So a new one is on order (has to be specifically ordered for my car) and they have said it could be week or more before they can complete the repair.
So my advice is get your car booked in and request a courtesy car too!
Good Luck

Re: Another NEWBIE NEEDS HELP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS
So I had the mechatronic unit replaced, took 10 days to complete the repair, 9 of these waiting for the unit to be delivered from VW HQ Germany part has to be made specially for the car, VW dealer sends chassis number and part is made according to that. Seemed to be fixed on the day I got the car back, but then I only had to drive it half a mile home. Next day though and the problem juddering was still there. So booked the car back in with the dealers, 2 week wait to get it back in the workshop, one thing I have noticed though was that my fuel economy has gone up since new mechatroic unit was fitted. Now I'm getting 450miles per tank as apprised to 400miles per tank before. So now the DSG7 needs a new clutch pack and again this is on order and at the earliest it will be 4 days until its received and fitted. I'll let you the out come once I get the car back.

Re: Another NEWBIE NEEDS HELP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS
Yes, the problem you have is apparently quite common with this engine/gearbox combo. I had/have the same issue. My local dealer replaced the clutch pack and updated the DSG software, and this instantly resolved the issue. My fuel economy did increase however I have never gotten near 450 miles off a tank. 380 with Vpower / 400 if I drive like my dad (which is very rarely). Normal fuel and mixed miles between m/way and town give me 330-350 miles per tank.
My concern is that my gearbox is on the verge of developing another fault, 6 months after it was initially fixed. So my dealer is going to need to investigate this further. I now get a lurch in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear during acceleration instead of the judder at low speeds.
Be sure to get this gone under warranty and make sure you collect the invoice from the dealer. The last fix was about £1200 so I'm glad the warranty covered this. Also worth noting that if your DSG service is due, get it done. Otherwise the stealers will take u for a ride.

Re: Another NEWBIE NEEDS HELP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS
Sorry it's been so long till this post. So the Roc had the new clutch pack and hey presto everything is fine. But because now I am listening for any issues I've become more aware of the gear teeth of 3rd gear when preselected catching on the main shaft. It's been there from the start but I read somewhere that it was thought to be a heat shield resonating as it does stop as the revs rise.
Don't get me wrong I love my car but why so many issues seemingly down to engineering design flaws.
Anyway enough moaning, time to star driving.
PS: I'm currently getting 430 miles/tank and I have a 50 mile round trip each day (4miles to and from motorway, 46miles motorway) and a 1.5 mile trip later in the day each weekday to pick up my other half from the train station too. I accelerate hard and cruise at 84mph. Even accelerating extra hard I get at least 400 miles/tank. For contrast on long motorway jaunts I get near 500miles when cruising between 75-80mph
