Knocking from rear left

Hello,
I have a 2012 scirocco (2012 R line 170 TDI 19 inch factory wheels) and there is a persistent knocking (metal sound) coming from the rear left when going over rough road or any bumps etc.
It has been in the VW dealers 3 times recently, and the sound seemed the go away for a little when I got it back - it was originally in for just rear bump stops but then they didn't connect the rear shock correctly so it was making noise which they had to fix (they claimed it was just a shock absorber sensor not connected after the last service - complete lie the sound was too loud and mechanical).
Has anybody had this issue ? Are drop links a common issue on these cars ?
