In my pursuit to eliminate all rattles I was following RW1's amazing instructions (iv'e borrowed his picture) to strip the rear quarter interior panels. Taped the wires down, found the seatbelt rattles loads so fixed that etc etc... Seeing as i had all these panels off i put my hand into the hole next to the seat and just below the window and found a plastic bag full of hard foam.. completely loose... is this normal? it had a VW stamp on it but surely if its sound insulation it would be out the bag and glued?????
Update...
So i'be pulled it out, have a look at the photo, the part code on the bag is 1k8 364 711 .... there is also a cardboard piece stuck on the foam which i think has been tapping against the bodywork as the car seems to have a lost the rattle coming from that side... Any one got any ideas if this is supposed to be glued to the body work or just left loose as it was? guessing its some sort of sound insulation.
