EGR Cooler replaced...now I’ve got different smoke?!?!?

Hi,
Long story short my cars been smoking and losing some coolant and other problems for about 4 monthish, nothing on the dipstick or oilcap,
The garage put it down to either the head gasket or EGR cooler so decided to go with the EGR cooler cheapast od the two. Got it from the garage after work today around 6.30. Guy at the garage said it didn’t smoke when he started it up and parked it and to see how I get on.
So got about a mile away from the garage and come to a little standstill traffic and when I set off again it started smoking but it seems a different kind of smoke now. If I’ve had a failing EGR for all them months could it just be a build up of coolant/crap that’s just cleaning out. When the car came under pressure up hill it was thick smoke and I couldn’t see out of my window.
I’ve read online that the coolant left in the exhaust can take a while to clear. Just hoping someone can shed some light. I’ll give the garage a ring tomorrow.
Thanks for any help
