Amber esp & steering wheel light.

Post by Retro Ray »

Hi All.
Yesterday I had a puncture and fitted the space saver wheel and this morning while drivingthe esp & steering lights are on amber.
Is this something that happens when using the space saver spare?
I am getting the new tyre fitted this afternoon.
Cheers

I wouldn't have expected them lights to come but the TPMS light to come on, if you have TPMS.

Is the steering wheel off centre? Normally you get both these lights if the steering angle sensor isn't able to calibrate.

But it could just be the system is detecting a more than usual difference from the wheel speed sensors due to the space saver and flagging the error.

Let us know if it clears when the normal wheels goes back on.

As Cuprabob says. Would only expect the TPMS light to come on. Just be aware, when I had a front puncture in my last Roc I managed to bottom the front lip when going up a shallow drive as the space saver is somewhat smaller in diameter.

I picked up a puncture over the weekend and had to put the space saver wheel on for a couple of days until I could get to the garage, the first day I drove the car the ESP light came on and stayed on for my drive to work. When I went home the light disappeared, this morning when driving the ESP kicked in for no reason when pulling away in 1st gear (there was no wheel spin) then again when the gear box tried to go from 2nd to 3rd. Again when coming home I had no problems or warning lights, I've got the new tyre on now so hopefully no more ESP spazzing out. i'll be monitoring it as my car is due in for major surgery next week (inlet manifold and injectors)
