Want to buy a Scirocco tomorrow - is this deal worth it?

Hey guys,

Been looking around to buy a Scirocco for months now. When a good deal comes along, everything is perfect except one thing or the other, whether it's rear parking sensors not included or a funky smell in the car that won't go, I've had no luck. I'm also reluctant to buy from a private seller as opposed to a dealer due to warranty, etc.

- Scirocco 2.0 TSI 210 GT DSG (2011 model)
- 15500 miles
- 1 owner, selling due to a baby on the way

Firstly, is this deal too good to be true? Generally, all other Scirocco's with such low mileage and especially a newer model are going for £18,000 at least. 2nd, if it is true, is this a worthy deal? Especially given that 2011 models haven't been recalled but some 2008-2009 models have been recalled so I'd have to be wary about models from those years so this seems like a no brainer? Also, is there any real difference between previous year models compared to the 2011 Scirocco?

That said, the interior isn't leather. If the deal is legit and the what's advertised is true, how much would it generally cost to replace it with leather in a Scirocco?

pre '10 the dash and wheel where different and matched up against mk5 Golf's. Post '11 leather interior became standard fit and along with bluetooth, you'll find some 61 plates with leather and some without depending on when they where ordered/built.

A full leather retrim by a specialist will likely cost £1200 - £1500 if using real cow.

Used prices are a bit strange at the moment whilst you'll see lots advertised for strong money they are not actually shifting for those kind of figures. CAP have private "good" as £15.8k and PX as £14.6k, WBAC will be around the £13.5k mark so I'd guess that is the sellers bottom dollar price.

The car still has a bit of VW warranty left so if your quick you could buy it and then extend the warranty with VW for however long you need/want. https://www.volkswagenextendedwarranty.co.uk/

If the car is less than 3 years old, it will still have manufacturers warranty providing it has had full VAG history. Being 2011, it will only have warranty providing it was registered between August 2011 and Dec 2011, which it must have as it is 61 reg (so post September 2011).

Price does seem good, but as you have mentioned, it does have cloth seats where as the leather is more desirable. Not sure what the 'recall's are you mention on 2008/9 models, mine is 2009 and I am not aware of any recalls for the Scirocco.

It is obviously 'Priced to sell' as per the advert, but be cautious just in case there is something to hide.

So long as all's in order it seems a fair, but not stunning deal, least if you were to pay the full asking. It's a basic spec (doesn't have leathers, as noted, but nor does it have sat nav). Dealers are asking around 16.5K or so for 61 plate with this level of spec and mileage, which means they're aiming for between 15.5 and 16K.

Finding a private buyer with 15k to part with for a niche car will never be easy, so you're in the driving seat. I would aim for 14K and go up to 14.25K. Spend the other 500 on the extended warranty, which will be available from your local VAG franchise.

Otherwise, at 14.75K + warranty you're heading into VAG dealer prices, and which offers a level of additional peace of mind beyond that covered by extended warranty, should concerns materialise having had the opportunity to undertake an extended 'test drive' once purchased.

Yes - as Moulin12 says, thinking about that one, it is not deal of the century, it is a fairly basic spec, but does have DSG.

Does look a very nicely presented car, and very low mileage for the year.

To add to the comments if you really want leather find one with factory leather seats retrofit will be more a expensive route. The factory leather also included heated front seats.

Seems like I found a better deal as this has leather and condition seems perfect, with 1 year VW warranty.

Actually it is nearer £16K than £15K which seems a lot for a 10 plate. Looks top spec, sat nav, leather (despite write up saying cloth), reverse sensors and very low mileage.

Nice car and peace of mind with the warranty, but would be looking to get that back to nearer £14K.

This VW dealership won't go down at all it seems, maybe 15k... thing is, low mileage Sciroccos in mint condition is hard to come by. He gave me his email though so what could I say in the email to ask him to come down to X price?

Yes - looks like one of those rare, low mileage well cared for examples. I would assume for that price it has got full VW service history.

I would still be haggling for more, I would perhaps insist on full tank of fuel, next 2 services and a deal say at £14.5K. For a private deal, that would still be a lot of money, but 16k miles is nothing for a 10 reg.

My dealer offered me £12K against a new Golf just over a year ago (mine is 09 plate) and I had 16k on the clock at the time.

I have looked it up, I can see it is registered June 2010, so just over 4 years old.

Not my favourite colour must be said, but looks mint condition.

Thanks for the detailed response and help. Sorry, but I really am not sure how to word this email so he's convinced to take the price down more than 1k. I don't want to buy privately at any price above 5k tbh since it's just too risky whereas buying from a dealer, a VW approved one no less, is obviously safe and has your guarantee, etc. Any chance you can help me with this email mate? Really want a Scirocco and at 14 or 14.5 it's a good deal I imagine...

Neither dors mine.as I chose the debadging option from the factory. Debadging.is quite common to clean up the tailgate.
