Cruise Control

Talk about general things related to the new VW Scirocco in here.

Cruise Control

Postby del2035 » Tue May 09, 2017 6:25 am

I bought a new GTS, TSI last September. I wanted cruise control, dealer said "no problem, you can retro fit after purchase". They lied! According to VW cruise control must not be retro fitted to this model.
Someone independant firms offer to fit anyway but VW say it will invalidate warranty.
This is not my first poor experience with VW dealerships.
I am not a happy bunny!!!

I was told that when we bought our first Scirocco - a 2011.
Bought it used (from a Jaguar dealer actually), went to a local VW dealer who said it couldn't be done.
Had one fitted by a great company called Professional Retrofits - perfect job and using all VW parts. Never had an issue with warranty on the car afterwards.
When we got the new one last year & it didn't have cruise, went back to same place to have another one fitted.
Top job & again no warranty issues (funnily enough, just had to have some warranty work done & no issues).
Don't believe what VW dealer tells you - why would they ban fitting cruise to one model.

I've been quoted £315 for supply, fitting and coding of a genuine stalk on my facelift R-line by a local VAG retrofit specialist. I believe it's less money to have it fitted to the earlier models

Thanks for the replies folks.
I didn't accept what the dealerships told me and have gone direct to VW customer service in Germany. They took full details of my car, VIN number etc and went to VW technical. The result was a strong emphasis that cruise control must NOT be retro fitted to this model. I wasn't told why but properly wouldn't understand anyway!
There are independant companies that are offering to fit "with genuine VW parts".
Quite frankly I don't have the bottle to have anything done to a new £30000 car that, according to VW, would invalidate the warranty.
Think I'll buy a BMW!

I can't believe this isn't a standard fit item. It will add £500 in value to your car come selling time

It won't and any value come resale time. It may make the car easier to sell but won't add significant value.

It's a shame, I won't buy a car without it now. If 2 identical cars popped up, one with, one without I'd throw an extra £500 at it. Best hope I'm in the market come sale time! Haha

I never use it. My car only has it as the additional cost was negligible when I specced the car up.

I wouldn't expect it to have any effect on my re sale value, I just want it for me. I'll keep the car a while, so worth doing now, as I've had it in my last few cars, and use it a lot, especially with all the M1, M25, A13 average speed cameras, it's easy to creep up!

You can 100% retrofit cruise control.

VW say you mustn't, many others (not VW), say you can!!!! I've asked VW to tell me "why" they are insisting it must not be retro fitted. Once I get that answer I hope I can make an informed decision.
I am still reluctant to do anything to the car that may help them to wriggle out of any future warranty claim.

VW won't be very helpful sadly but there is no reason it shouldn't be retrofitted. Its extremely straightforward to retrofit components like cruise controls as the car is setup already for them, you just need to let the car know they have been installed using Vagcom. You find the option, and tick the box to say it has been installed! They are already setup to have these options (cruise control, Bluetooth, folding mirrors etc) just need installing and turning on!

VW do not use Vagcom and anything retrofitted in there mind just seems to be wrong, but refuse to give any decent response why not! however I suppose if you have a warranty it is something to be considered, but I highly highly doubt cruise control would be noticed!

Why are you reluctant to do anything?
Some dealers will happily retrofit cruise control. Although the numbers are dwindling, simply because it's not worth the time of the garage.

Depending on your modules you may need a few extra bits but either way, it can be absolutely done.
